In the next few weeks, the Turnbull government could hand over $1 billion of public money to prop up Adani’s giant polluting megamine.
ACF supporter Sharon France thinks this is an outrageous use of public money, so she's come up with the Australian People's Bank of Better Ideas.
Sharon recalls, "I literally woke up one morning thinking, 'If everyone could spend $1 billion on something beneficial, what would they fund? Certainly not a loan to a billionaire for a coal mine.'"
We’re helping Sharon gather ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public money.
When all your ideas are in, Sharon will send a report highlighting the most popular and creative suggestions to our Prime Minister.
Australians don't want their public money used to prop up Adani's giant coalmine. Our elected representatives have the choice to invest in public good, not private greed.
So what are your ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public funds?

Invest in production of CSIRO hydrogen fuel and other renewable technologies. Pass on a clean energy legacy for generations
This is my vision for how to better spend AUD$1billion: invest in research, development and start-ups, i.e. manufacturing of a variety of clean renewable energy technologies from small to large models. Replace the current gigantic, destructive and ugly aircraft propeller style wind turbines with the elegant models that looks like a tree (French) and the artistic circular designs (many) large enough to power entire states. Beautify the landscape by having gardens of these different designs. These tree designs can be localised as well, i.e. streets can have their own trees and even individuals can have their own. There are designs for generating energy out of the ocean currents – we are surrounded by water. These can provide energy to all the islands and coastal towns and cities. There are many designs and they should all be developed so that as many people as possible can benefit from having jobs to exposure to as many designs and ideas as possible. There is no reason why there should be one ‘big’ model to replace the big ‘coal and gas’ model. It’s completely inefficient. There are also many others e.g. solar panels, small wind turbines on rooves, etc. A billion dollars can go a long way to help all the ideas which are already out there to become a reality.
Building low-cost, eco-friendly, sustainable “small houses” (shipping containers?) scattered about various suburbs (not just at the ends of the earth!) in all cities that are made available to single pensioners for a fixed and affordable-on-a-pension rental. One where there’s a little bit of private yard and the ability to keep a small dog or cat. Everyone knows how hard it is for young folks to buy a home, but it’s even harder for single, aged pension folks to find affordable rental accommodation.
Probably just about anything would be a better use of it… seriously… think about it
I, for one, and I’m sure I speak for many more people, do not want my tax money put towards funding the Adani Coal Mine Project. I would love to have my money put towards clean energy from the sun and wind. It is immoral to keep digging into the earth and destroying land that really belongs to our Indigenous First Nation peoples. We, the public who pay our taxes should have a say WHERE we want our money to go/Adani will pollute the earth and use too much water. DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO ADANI PLEASE!
Cheryl East Yes create jobs that will save the reef not expose it to danger. Stop the use of fossils fuels in Australia and stop encouraging the rest of the world to use fossil fuels. Pass a bill to stop any oil in the Great Australian Bight by any oil company. Stand up for the world and Australia against the evil profit makers who somehow have the opinion all belongs to them.
Some of it for ppl who have to leave there jobs when they have been diagnosed with cancer to help support them. Some for community housing and housing for ppl with disabilities money for pensioners who don’t have super to live on so the end of there life is not a struggle.
There are so many things that Australia needs for improvement. We used to be a nation to be proud of, we have slowly gone downhill over the last few years and that’s so disappointing. Now you’re putting the reef at great risk, once that has gone, we can never get it back! Putting the money into saving the environment instead of destroying it!

$1 billion towards innovation in green technologies
Create more public housing using recycleables by inventive creative architects, using wind and solar energy so low prices, in fact throw in some generators and have it cost free, or a small rent to cover the cost. Invest in pro-active First nations programmes for those in youth justice, no know their country and give them, get them real and valuable jobs, as it is not a lifestyle choice. Build better rail, bike and public transport…..that’s just for starters
Renewable energy …..a must for our children…….you and your government will be regarded very poorly for not leading us to a carbon free economy.

Instead of destroying the country, a scenic coastal rail link around Australia, designed for international tourism, aimed at everyone, not just wealthiest of visitors, but for backpackers also. A slower train service that has open carriages, and air con carriages, sitting short trips and sleeper carriages. Stopping at many places along the way, so visitors can really experience the country, would open new opportunities for Australian small businesses on the train routes. It could easily end up being the Number 1 tourist attraction in the world. This will create tens of thousands of jobs and opportunities. It will also get inexperienced visitors that do not speak or read english, off the roads. Tourism is the 4th biggest money maker in the world, and Australia is a wasted opportunity as we could easily be the most desired tourist place globally. If this TOURIST RAIL was kept as a public asset, it will pay for itself many times over. Lisa Quain
Use Germany’s model of renewable energy, wind, solar and hydro power and abolish coal mining entirely.
Simply invest it in renewable energy infrastructure and the jobs that go with it.
Coal is over!! solar for Australia, the sunny country.
Spend it on more public housing
