In the next few weeks, the Turnbull government could hand over $1 billion of public money to prop up Adani’s giant polluting megamine.

ACF supporter Sharon France thinks this is an outrageous use of public money, so she's come up with the Australian People's Bank of Better Ideas.

Sharon recalls, "I literally woke up one morning thinking, 'If everyone could spend $1 billion on something beneficial, what would they fund? Certainly not a loan to a billionaire for a coal mine.'"

We’re helping Sharon gather ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public money.

When all your ideas are in, Sharon will send a report highlighting the most popular and creative suggestions to our Prime Minister.

Australians don't want their public money used to prop up Adani's giant coalmine. Our elected representatives have the choice to invest in public good, not private greed.

So what are your ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public funds?

To get more involved in Sharon's creative action, download the Better Ideas for a Billion Dollars action pack or visit her blog post to learn more.

To start with instead of spending millions on vested interest research.. and throwing millions at invasive species Council etc
How about better Biosecurity staff and more staff and avoid burning irreplaceable plant specimens and all the other errors .:
And that could go to help the prawn farmers and industry decimated because contaminated imported prawns were allowed in when we were one of only a couple of countries unaffected..?
Retool and help them and the prawn industry in general..
And stop allowing imports of foods grown using chemicals we wouldn’t allow or from unfair unsafe environmentally damaging practices .. human rights and health and environment before imports that take away from our farmers etc?

And how about saving a few hundred million on Invasive species? Simply stop ignoring research and facts.
Fix it at entry first.
Then feral cats .. simply legislate and fund Rangers to track and trap in all States. Require all cats be kept in at night.. including farming areas .. yes they eat rats and mice and farmers let them run loose.. insist on desexing all males and provide funding to make it affordable to any other
Registered breeders and require all councils everywhere to make it compulsory for domestic cats to be kept contained .. funding for enclosures or community groups like men’s shed or create a funding to unemployed group or community service people to build and sell at a reasonable cost..
Invest in clean clever jobs so there is no reliance on our wildlife that is being decimated as is vital habitat
by rotten trade deals .. it’s nothing to do with anything other than a dollar and every single species we are losing is at the hands of governments State and Federal.
Close the gap literacy

Well how about getting all the resources from schools all over the country that are binned at the end of the year and the term and all the many thousands of books etc and collecting and giving to Indiengius groups home schooled borrowing libraries kids in care etc? Less fortunate people little schools that do not have a library let alone a librarian?
Work out how to meet your blasted trade contracts without killing off kangaroos Dingoes Leadbeaters possum the whole damn Reef Koalas Swift parrots .. could go on but it’s endless and a total disgrace .
And while you are at it get proper facilities for the young languishing in Aged care facilities re disabilities and no many are suffering Hodgkin ms etc..
Don’t find stupid obligations test people and enforce that rubbish .. that helps a tiny percentage of people get a job.. many people can’t get to an office re fares on a day .. no money.. all that interview training and using and funding computer courses is garbage in the main.. select the individuals that need and want that..
Think about really helping give them a lift into apprenticeships They want get them a food handlers certificate etc get them basic training in THEIR chosen occupation ..
This unemployment rate is YOUR fault .. stop the create jobs rubbish and fix the problems at both ends..
Every one NOW has to have this or that certificate has to have this or that qualification .. garbage garbage .. No let them learn from their employers…. basic flipping waitressing bar skills brickies labourers
low skilled tech and manufacturing.. let them blasted we’ll reach the young.. it was better when we could get a go without this certification rubbish..
Then you’ll have people going to TAFE and Uni getting bettter higher qualifications.. but let them get a blasted job first..
You have no clue.. the kids who do not fit the school curriculum the kids who struggle .. well they hate words they hate schools they hate computing and desk jobs .. they do not fit formal education and they learn as all kids at every age should by doing !!!!
And if you have a bit left .. give it to me and I’ll buy lots of land and prevent the government anywhere from touching one animal tree bit of fungi blade of grass or contaminate water . Thank
You

Invest in reducing benefit dependent people moving them into taxable work, without relying on outsource contractors. Outsource reviewers to identify a percentage reduction of top heavy public servants ie directors and above. Research and development investment on repairing the reef and farming land.

Josy Kennedy; spend the money on renewable energy, and on banning single use plastic bags (well, actually, all plastic bags would be even better). We’ve only got one planet, Prime Minister. Lets look after it, so that it will continue to look after us well into the future. (Did you see the pictures from that remote Pacific Island, with all that plastic pollution washed up on the beach? Do we want the whole planet to look like that?)
Josy 2017-05-17 10:31:59 +1000
A better way to spend a billion dollars would be to invest in renewable energy and therefore create jobs for the future.
