In the next few weeks, the Turnbull government could hand over $1 billion of public money to prop up Adani’s giant polluting megamine.

ACF supporter Sharon France thinks this is an outrageous use of public money, so she's come up with the Australian People's Bank of Better Ideas.

Sharon recalls, "I literally woke up one morning thinking, 'If everyone could spend $1 billion on something beneficial, what would they fund? Certainly not a loan to a billionaire for a coal mine.'"

We’re helping Sharon gather ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public money.

When all your ideas are in, Sharon will send a report highlighting the most popular and creative suggestions to our Prime Minister.

Australians don't want their public money used to prop up Adani's giant coalmine. Our elected representatives have the choice to invest in public good, not private greed.

So what are your ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public funds?

To get more involved in Sharon's creative action, download the Better Ideas for a Billion Dollars action pack or visit her blog post to learn more.

How about investing in our gorgeous state and pumping that money into Queensland tourism, or better yet, help the local farmers.

Ecotourism and renewable energy projects in North Queensland to create jobs where the mine would have done so. This is so important as the supporters of the mine are the people in North Queensland who would have gained from it. It is all well and good to want the mine banned, but what about the unemployed in regional areas? (PS I live in Sydney but visited Townsville this year)

Pennie Holley, start education programs that teach our children our nations cultures and values. Start educating our children from an early age the wonderful life they enjoy in Australia is due to the hard won fight against oppressors. Radicalization is a result of no direction and inclusiveness for young people. Start teaching them they have a voice!

I would go to the heart of every single problem we now face: education. A $1 billion dollar investment in rigorous, substantial, and relevant education to primary and secondary level kids on the nature of sustainability, energy, natural resources, species conservation, and ethics. We will only ever repeat our mistakes if we focus on the symptoms and not the solution. Let’s re-write curriculums, pay teachers more, and empower the next generation instead of leaving them with a legacy covered in coal dust.

Healthcare for women with breast cancer once diagnosed no longer get free mammograms and have to pay $500 out of pocket for an MRI usually every 3-6 months for the future due to gov’t health cuts. Being a pensioner (senior) I’ve had to pay out of pockets of $7000 in two weeks of surgery for Breast cancer and going forward will have to pay for all future MRI & ultra sounds due to government cuts. I did not choose to have breast cancer and the government should provide healthcare for its taxpayers of fifty years when they are in need of healthcare through no fault of their own.

Money should be used for research and assistance to food growers, farmers and orchardists. With increasing global warming due to climate change there will be sever food shortages as crops fail to germinate or are ruined due to adverse weather patterns.

I think the government should re-nationalise the the entire grid and modernise it so that it is suitable for the 21st century and the renewable future.
John 2017-05-28 12:49:33 +1000
Commit to development of renewables through free higher education in science and engineering, financial assistance for the implementation of renewable sources and the creation of a national grid to convey the energy from source to load. Australia should be a world leader in the use of renewable energy with a renewable energy industry cabable of selling our expertise overseas.
With the advent of highly efficient battery systems the excuse to use coal as baseload enrgy is now past. The billion dollars would basically be used for the rapid away from coal.

A large part of it could go into setting up heaps of alternative methods of power generation for instance eg wind farms, in order to replace the dirty, smelly coal mines, power stations etc.

Mr Turnbull,
If this money was invested in renewable energy research and production, we could be leading the world in this area. As a result, we could be lowering our emissions, protecting our beautiful reef, creating new meaningful jobs that people could be proud to be a part of, as well as protecting our environment for future generations. Not to mention, saving one of our most precious commodities, that will definitely be jeopardised by the propping up of this mega coal mine, OUR WATER!
We cannot afford to be using our water in this way, at a time when water is even more in need of our protection than ever!
it really is time for you to listen to the people Mr Turnbull and not to the rhetoric of a billionaire who actually does not have the interests of Australia or the Australian people on his mind.
Say NO to Adani and YES to the future of this wonderful country that we call home!
