In the next few weeks, the Turnbull government could hand over $1 billion of public money to prop up Adani’s giant polluting megamine.

ACF supporter Sharon France thinks this is an outrageous use of public money, so she's come up with the Australian People's Bank of Better Ideas.

Sharon recalls, "I literally woke up one morning thinking, 'If everyone could spend $1 billion on something beneficial, what would they fund? Certainly not a loan to a billionaire for a coal mine.'"

We’re helping Sharon gather ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public money.

When all your ideas are in, Sharon will send a report highlighting the most popular and creative suggestions to our Prime Minister.

Australians don't want their public money used to prop up Adani's giant coalmine. Our elected representatives have the choice to invest in public good, not private greed.

So what are your ideas for better ways to use $1 billion of public funds?

To get more involved in Sharon's creative action, download the Better Ideas for a Billion Dollars action pack or visit her blog post to learn more.

The degraded soils of our farmlands are causing big problems to our agricultural sector. Chemical fertilizers are a quick fix but cause problems of their own as they wash into creeks and polute waterways. Chemical fertilizers do not provide any buffer to soften the blows of droughts. Chemical fertilizers produce products that lack resiliance that comes with a well balanced living soil and poor food is dificult to transport, keep and lacks the nutrients for a healthy population.
We now have the knowledge of ways to introduce a balanced natural system of life into our soils that will counter all these problems. Our problem is that many farmers are too busy to try knew ways and the chemical fertilizer companies have already established relationships that make it dificult to break the old fashioned bad practices.
My idea is to give those chemical fertilizer companies grants to branch out into teaching our farmers these better farming practices. Also offer grants to farmers who are willing to change to help with tuition and initial overhead costs.
Australia is in a position to step into the future way ahead of many other countries by going organic. Consumers are becoming aware of the benefits of good healthy food and many are also wanting to protect our environment. If Australia makes it a priority to step this way we will benefit by having a superior product, our natural environment will be in a better state and our soils will be far more resiliant when they are exposed to the extremes of climate.
Australia will once again have a strong agriculture sector to contribute to our nations wealth.
You will win far more votes by strengthening our economy and environment giving this help to Australian farmers than by propping up the dirty coal/energy projects that the majority of the population know are outdated and considdered bad practice.

Julia Edwards We have hundreds, if not thousands, of homeless people who need help finding somewhere safe and warm to live. The Adani mine will create pollution and it is not a necessary mine at all. Please show care and understanding for those in need – so badly in need.

Use the $ to deal with climate change and protect the reef. Think of the decreased tourism with a dead reef. Think long term, not just your time as a politician.

The creation of an honest political system that is focussed on human kindness and earth friendly. Harness free energy.
Cut sales taxes and extra taxes placed on fuel, car registration and green slip insurance. Make university free. There are endless ways to spend this money.
Reafforestation for example and land repair for damages already done.

With $1billion you could install solar panels and battery systems on 167,000 homes in rural areas. Lease the systems back and make a tidy profit, while creating local businesses, taking the pressure of the grid in remote areas, possibly hooking people up who are relying on deisel generators, saving emissions and providing cheaper energy. Why wouldn’t that be a better investment than a railway to a white elephant coal mine on a flood plain in a time of climate emergency? Responsible use of tax payer money please.
