Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_SwiftParrot.jpg

Swift parrots breed in the nesting hollows in big old trees in Tasmania, then fly north in winter. In search of nectar, they cross Bass Strait in small groups. When there’s lots of eucalyptus flowers, they congregate in huge colourful flocks – but in dry years they have to travel far and wide.

Habitat destruction means the fastest parrot in the world is on a rapid path to extinction.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

Do the right thing and pass laws that protect these creatures. Once they’re gone they’re never coming back!

We need to stop clear felling our trees to help these beautiful birds live. I wonder what these beautiful birds thought when they discovered their home was destroyed, especially after such a difficult flight to Tasmania from the mainland. They are a very small bird and yet courageous to fly those distances.

No one is listening to the plight of these creatures. They cannot speak or cry out. You continue to authorise the destruction of their homes and families.Don,t you care what you are doing.MONEY hunger is SHAMEFUL.

We need laws to STOP companies destroying OUR precious country and all the animals that belong here. Every living creature that is native to OUR country has a part to play in OUR eco-system. Please listen to the need and be the change!

I am greatly concerned that our environmental laws are not protecting threatened species and not doing anywhere near enough to stop the wipe out of many species. Please do more. Act for the greater good of these species. Consult the experts who know, not vested interests who do not know or want to know the drastic extent of the damage already done. It can be reversed. It should be reversed. It is the will of the people that this slack attitude to our responsibilities to these species be stopped and laws set in place to deal with these issues. Please act now.

We need stronger environment laws because our wildlife is losing habitat faster than ever before.

Habitat destruction means the fastest parrot in the world is on a rapid path to extinction. We are yet to have the pleasure of seeing these beautiful birds and would like their habitat protected so that they can thrive and we can have the pleasure of seeing them in the wild.

We need stronger environment laws to protect our wild life and habitat . When are our politicians going to wake up and stop this insane over development of our precious country that is destroying our wild life?

I’ve seen Swift Parrots in our area for many years. They migrate here to feed on flowering eucalypts. As a wildlife carer, I have also cared for injured swift parrot. These are a beautiful & delicate birds.
The Swift Parrot is critically endangered, & we see less & less of them over time. Sadly, in our area, as in many others on their migratory path, there has been logging & land clearing of the swift parrot’s habitat, robbing them of food & of crucial nesting trees.
The swift parrot will become extinct within our lifetime if we don’t take urgent action, & protect their habitat – especially the old eucalypt trees that they need for nesting in Tasmania, as well as the flowering gum trees they need in NSW. Please protect these special birds that grace our area each year, in dwindling numbers. We need strong national laws to protect the habitat of our vulnerable and endangered native wildlife. We also need better state protection of habitat for our dwindling wildlife. Biodiversity offsets won’t save these animals. They need their habitat protected – not traded away.
Extinction is forever.
Thank you.

We need laws that will stop companies destroying the precious creatures habitats. Laws that will compel decision makers to make decisions that help, not harm, our living world. Laws that will give these creatures a voice.

Our native species are becoming more and more endangered every day – pushed to the brink of extinction by Man’s greed.
Please help to put a stop to the destruction of native habitat, and save these beautiful creatures. Please don’t let another species become extinct ON YOUR WATCH!!

The environment is a life support- not only for humans but for all the creatures dependant on it. They depend on humans for their existence now – so please don’t play god with their lives. Give them a chance to continue existing on the planet.

This country has the highest extinction rate in the world. The Swift Parrot is heading to add to tha horrific rate. The federal government needs to act immediately to stop logging in native forests or the destruction of high biodiversity areas due to absolute inadequate protection regulations. Improved laws and regulation is critical as is funding to biodiversity restoration groups how are trying to save such species through improvements to their habitat.

Immediate action is critical to reverse this horrific extinction rate. Act positively immediately.

I am 10 years old and want to know that this parrot exists, even though I don’t live near where it does. Do something to stop logging of old trees so the birds have a chance to breed. Unlike us, it struggles to adjust to no home. What is more important? Some cleared land, or an amazing creature that will last generations if we care enough for it now? How can you put a price on a lost species???

Animals and there habitat need to be protected. Energy policy needs to change to incorporate renewable sources, and animal agriculture should be gradually phased out. Forest regrowth in saved land and substantive protection of wildlife should be the policy direction of our leaders.
