Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_SwiftParrot.jpg

Swift parrots breed in the nesting hollows in big old trees in Tasmania, then fly north in winter. In search of nectar, they cross Bass Strait in small groups. When there’s lots of eucalyptus flowers, they congregate in huge colourful flocks – but in dry years they have to travel far and wide.

Habitat destruction means the fastest parrot in the world is on a rapid path to extinction.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

We need stronger environmental laws because once they’re gone they’re gone

Dear Julia I have just returned from overseas and it has prompted me to think more about how precious our animal and plant life is. I’m writing to ask you to advocate for protecting our animal and plant life and striking a better balance between developmemt and our natural heritage. It is not too late to make a difference. Thank you for considering my request. Kind regards Paula Howell.

We need strong environment laws to protect the habitat of our unique birds and wildlife. Govt decisions should consider what is good for our environment and not just for the economy.

Dear Alex,

Earlier, I wrote to you about the sorry plight of the Palm Cockatoo, which is facing extinction, due to the actions of Mankind. Now, I would like to advise you about a further seven, similarly threatened creatures, which will also be doomed, should they not receive assistance, firstly, by Human Beings ceasing bad practices and secondly, by projects being put in place, to restore their habitat and assist them in regaining their numbers in the wild. The creatures to which I refer are Numbats, Striped Legless Lizards, Southern Corroboree Frogs, Greater Glider Possums, Southern Blue Whales, Swift Parrots and Largetooth Sawfish. Land-clearing, Tree-felling (especially old growth trees), dredging, dynamiting (both on land as well as at sea), pollution, by waste (eg. plastics) and chemicals and the general destruction of the Environment, has resulted in all these creatures losing Habitat and Food Sources. If this pattern continues, more and more of our Native Animals will disappear, FOR ETERNITY. There will be no coming back and we, the people and you and your colleagues (the Parliament), will be responsible for an unenviable amount of EXTINCT NATIVE CREATURES. We need strong and effective legislation, to protect the Environment and our Native Flora and Fauna and I am asking you, to please to do your utmost to assist these creatures, who have no voice and no influence. Protecting the weak, should not only apply to the Human variety but to all the world’s inhabitants.
Thanking you,
Yours Faithfully,
Neville P. Wilkinson

I am an animal lover who cares deeply about the fate of all animals, and don’t want any of our native fauna to go extinct.

With less that 2000 swift parrots left in the wild it will not help our economy system as every living organism has its purpose. Without your help we will not have this bird in the future

I’ve looked for the Swift Parrot in Tasmania without any success and it will be even harder if their breeding trees continue to be logged. I have looked for them in NSW when they come across in winter but also have been unsuccessful. Where are all the flowering gums they need to feed? Please help the Swift Parrot with stronger national environmental laws and help me to see them in the future.

Not only does our treasured fauna need habitat, but even we selfish, irresponsible, greedy humans need it, to maintain the ecological balance that underpins our own survival.

Strong national environment laws are essential to protect our endangered wildlife for both our international reputation and for future generations of Australians.

We need stronger environment laws to protect what animals we have left. Australia has a terrible record for most extinct animals which is due to selfish human actions and the non caring Governments. So please consider our special but endangered animals and strengthen environment laws.
yours sincerely,

Endangered species need protection as a matter of urgency. Clearing of habitats for logging is a crime against future generations and the plant and animal kingdoms. Please act on behalf of conservation and the environment and stop logging in old growth forests.

Why on Earth are (most) humans so mindless and greedy and grasping – we tout how we are civilised and the smartest creatures on the planet – not so. Why do we let foreign multi-nationals into our country to own and produce from our lands – money – greasing the the hand that matters – the selfish acts of the people in positions to allow this, turning the blind eye so they can have more money is destroying our country and planet. the biodiversity of nature/wildlife is necessary and there for a reason. Why do the powers that be allow this to happen when the majority of the population rejects it. Why are we not practicing a democracy – not just saying we have one? Why is any other life disregarded and disrespected with zero conscience? MONEY. Pretty sad and sickening.
Please stand up and represent the other lives on this planet that are unable to defend themselves. Please be respectful to life – all kind
