Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_SwiftParrot.jpg

Swift parrots breed in the nesting hollows in big old trees in Tasmania, then fly north in winter. In search of nectar, they cross Bass Strait in small groups. When there’s lots of eucalyptus flowers, they congregate in huge colourful flocks – but in dry years they have to travel far and wide.

Habitat destruction means the fastest parrot in the world is on a rapid path to extinction.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

Because of clearing forests the swift parrot is declining as it is losing its habitat. These beautiful birds need action to save them from extinction.

We need environmental laws that actually protect the environment! We don’t live in a vacuum or a bubble, we need the whole natural world to be healthy and whole to be able to live healthy happy lives. Please stand strong for our environment.

You don’t dismiss humans and destroy their homes so why let it happen to humans?

Australia is a very unqiue and fragile continent environmentally. It is therefore the responsiblity of the Australian government to continue to take the greatest care through legisilation to take care of the unique species that we have.

Australia has the most amazing birds, animals and other wildlife, and they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Please support our wildlife and nature by helping to implement stronger environmental laws to protect what we have left. Please raise this with the party hierarchy on behalf of your constituents who care.

The Swift Parrot is a very attractive bird that deserves protection of its habitat so that it can thrive. Everything possible needs to be done to protect its habitat from clearing and invasion by sugar gliders. How disgusting would it be if this bird disappeared from Australia, so I urge you to support the introduction of strong environmental protection laws not only for the swift parrot but all the other animals which share its habitat.

Swift parrots were always seen in our district and sometimes nested in local trees.. now they are rarely seen.

I am 17 years of age, and I plan to travel and see the world when I graduate high school. I fear that we are losing our environment at such a rapid rate that I will not be able to experience our native flora and fauna when I travel around Australia.
This rapid loss is devastating, and it is up to the people of Australia to voice a need for change, but it is up to our government to listen. Please, on behalf of the young people who are yet to see the beauty our country has to offer, hear us now before it is too late.

Without strong laws to protect the environment, the Swift Parrot and a number of other endangered species will become extinct. Australia has a shocking record of extinction of unique species and it is essential to ensure government action to ensure the survival of not only the Swift Parrot but other endangered species.

The Swift Parrot is critically endangered. It’s in serious and possibly irreversible decline. This amazing bird nests in Tasmania and flies across the Bass Strait in winter. They are being decimated by habitat destruction. Without strong support and enforcement of good environmental policies, this parrot and many other species will go extinct. I urge you to shine a light on the plight of the Swift Parrot and other unique Australian species in decline, and secure a better future for them and for future generations of Australians.

In this stressful time of climate change, we need to preserve our forests for our own survival as well as the survival of our unique Australian species.
Please strenghten the laws protecting our natural environment.
