Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_StripedLeglessLizard.jpg

Nowadays, these sleek little critters are legless – but they weren’t always. Through evolution, their front legs disappeared completely and their back legs ended up just small scaly protrusions. But they can still jump 30 centimetres into the air!

But Legless Lizards can’t outrun the destruction of their habitat.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

The environment is a life support- not only for humans but for all the creatures dependant on it. They depend on humans for their existence now – so please don’t play god with their lives. Give them a chance to continue existing on the planet.

I am 10 years old and want to see this unique and shy creature survive and thrive. Maybe we need to stop spreading out our cities and instead make them grow upwards! It’d save lots of needy animals from doom. Do something useful and stop this nonsense!

I loved legless lizards when I was a child. I want my great grand children to have the joy of seeing them.

I support ACF strong push for stronger environmental protection laws. Especially that of the Great Barrier Reef, and endangered species like the Striped Legless Lizard and many others. It is critical times and it’s is shameful how backward are Australian approaches on both sides of politics compared to Europe and other countries. We should lead the way and stop following USA’s heartless short sighted policies. Please consider future generations of all species including our own.

Sincerely

Animals and there habitat need to be protected. Energy policy needs to change to incorporate renewable sources, and animal agriculture should be gradually phased out. Forest regrowth in saved land and substantive protection of wildlife should be the policy direction of our leaders.

The people of Australia have a less than auspicious legacy as the world’s leader of wildlife extinction. We need to stop this. As population we need to do more to protect our unique wildlife including this creature. As a politician you have the power to lead this protection as Bob Hawke’s Government did with stopping the Franklin Dam. It’s time for Labor to stand up again and prove its environmental credentials. Stop these extinctions. Please

We are not the owners but the custodians of our beautiful country. And we are faling down on the job. Badly.

This needs to stop. How are animals becoming extinct in this day and age.
Disgusting

Striped Legless lizards are more than curiosities. They are fascinating creatures that have evolved through generations to develop to this stage. It is our guardianship responsibility to protect this and all wildlife, fauna and their habitat. Please do not let more extinctions to occur due to apathy. Take action now to legislate for strong environmental laws to protect what is left. Extinction is forever. Thank you for your your considered attention and action.

I have a small acreage block and have left all the habitat and the wildlife is incredible. Unfortunately there are new estates popping up all around this area and they just knock down and mulch everything with absolutely no regard for the wildlife and forrest. We are loosing our wildlife so fast and when there is nowhere to go the animals end up on the road. Save more natural forest, not everything is about money and destruction.

We need stronger environmental laws to protect beautiful native Australian animals. Please make sure that our laws protect our native fauna and flora from endangerment, extinction, and destruction.

At 70 years of age, I have never felt more pessimistic about the Australia in which I grew up. Deforestation and the resulting loss of species is accelerating at a shocking rate, and governments of all complexions appear reluctant to do anything about it. Once it is lost, it is lost forever. Australia is becoming an international pariah in this respect. The destruction of our forests, the loss of species, the rate of these terrible processes is a world-beater. We should all be hanging our heads in shame. For many years now, I have (justly) labelled every Minister for the Environment the Minister AGAINST the Environment. Any good action is overwhelmingly cancelled by the LACK of action. It seems that greedy corporations are in charge everywhere we look. Australia is now cause for despair. I know that you, my local Member, is not part of the current government. But, please, do your best to oppose their complicity in this destruction. At this rate, eventually there will be barely anything left of our unique natural environment. Mining, development and broad-scale clearance for inefficient farming – in other words, money – always comes first.

If we allow the continued destruction of critical habitat resulting in the extinction of so many species we will be the disgrace of the future. We will go down in history as the generation that failed to coexist peacefully and respectfully with our natural environment and, in our greed and disregard for consequence, denied our fellow inhabitants their right to exist
