Nowadays, these sleek little critters are legless – but they weren’t always. Through evolution, their front legs disappeared completely and their back legs ended up just small scaly protrusions. But they can still jump 30 centimetres into the air!
But Legless Lizards can’t outrun the destruction of their habitat.
Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.
Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

It might not be big and beautiful, but that is no reason for us to destroy its home. Get your colleagues to stop doing it – now!

I am a Guardian of these lands and all creatures in it. When they hurt, we hurt. When they are stressed, we feel it. This is why I am acting. Because we all deserve to feel safe and protected.
I am very concerned that our government does not address the environmental issues we currently face.
Please! Please represent us by asking that strong laws be made and adhered to so that we do not lose the Striped Legless Lizard and many other creatures in this country.
Dear Minister,
these Lizards may not look very exiting to the untrained eye.
But they represent a very fascinating step of evolution – they have only tiny remnants of what used to be the creature with proper legs before them.
And they are at the bottom of the food chain.
They are as important as many other animals which are on the endangered list.
LET’S LOOK AFTER THEM ALL !!!
Kind regards
Birgit
this is our beauiful country we share with so many beauiful animals help save them so our children & children’s children’s can also share them
We have some of the most unique, beautiful reptiles in the world. Why should we lose even one of them?
Save our native flora and fauna!
Where is the backup plan? – There isn’t one, so stop before it is too late.
Victoria, Australia, Earth is our only home. We know development is unsustainable and we are heading for a huge mess but no one has the courage to pause and take stock. Australia has the largest extinction rate in the world. The longer we procrastinate the worse it will be to fix.
I am very concerned that most threatened species, including my local Striped legless Lizard, are not given the protection and the resources they require to survive, recover even. The threats, well-known and documented, are ongoing, and it is incumbent on all levels of government to ameliorate them. Naturally, the federal government should be the primary agent of management. To date, it has been underwhelmed!
Please do something before we add more species to the ‘extinct’ list!

Humans are supposed to be smart. Instead of being responsible for making plants, animals & entire ecosystems extinct, we should be PROTECTING them instead. It’s time to step up for the future of the planet.
They can only survive with your help and action.
another animal I played with that I haven’t seen for years
