Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_StripedLeglessLizard.jpg

Nowadays, these sleek little critters are legless – but they weren’t always. Through evolution, their front legs disappeared completely and their back legs ended up just small scaly protrusions. But they can still jump 30 centimetres into the air!

But Legless Lizards can’t outrun the destruction of their habitat.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

Our survival depends on all creatures and flora great and small. Extinction is on the governments head. We need good leadership not voter grabbing politicians!

Hello Kate,

We are living through a massive extinction event. Never since the Permian, 275 millions year ago, has biodiversity been impacted to such an extent, and it’s all because of us!

So we have another species lost, the striped legless lizard. When are we ever going to learn that biodiversity is precious? Please speak out against the mindless destruction of our precious bush habitats such as the decision of the New South Wales Government to protect horses in Kosciusko National Park and the South Australian Government’s decision to turn Cleland Conservation Park into a tourist resort extravaganza with devastating results on these ecosystems.

Kind regards,

Please stop allowing these beautiful creatures to disappear.
Please stop protecting developers and profits.
Please stop and think that when these creatures have gone it will be forever and future generations don’t deserve this!
Jo 2018-06-09 16:38:43 +1000
I want future generations to know these usually invisible creatures first hand not from a book or video. Please take action to protect their habitat otherwise we will lose them forever.

We need laws that will stop companies destroying these Lizard’s habitat. Laws that will compel decision makers to make decisions that help, not harm, our living world. Laws that will give these creatures a voice. Soon it will be too late and you will have been part of the destruction of these magnificent creatures. Take a stand, do the right thing. Please…..you have the power to do this.

For the protection of our rapidly diminishing native animals, stronger laws MUST be enforced lest we lose the lot.

They are part of the worlds family.

Old growth forests and Marine Parks are obvious targets for conservation but closer to home are the grassy woodlands which are so often cleared and bulldozed for housing or other development. Among other often ill-noticed species is the legless lizard – a cute little fellow, sometimes mistaken for a young snake. The legless lizard is now threatened in several states including the ACT. We need better laws to assess areas before development and to protect remaining habitat for species in danger -
once gone, never to be seen again.

The web of life, which includes legless lizards, has been evolving for millions of years. We have been devolving for the past 5,000 years or so under anti-life patriarchal society. The destruction of wildlife and its habitat over just the past two decades alone is critical and causing the tipping of the balance of nature. Do you know what the balance of nature IS? Human society is no longer sustainable and we will pay the price for our ignorance of natural laws. We are breaking each one of them.
