Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

Queensland has excellent and extensive renewable energy resources and has no need to continue fossil fuel use. Investment in hydrostorage and batteries, and EV transport would make Qld a fossil fuel free state, provide jobs and investment opportunities and lead to it being a world leader in protecting life on earth from the life threatening global warming

I want Queensland to protect nature in many ways. Qld can be effective in nature protection by being a renewables champion instead of promoting fossil fuels.

I want Queensland to act on climate change and be a climate change champion because we need more habitat to protect endangered and vulnerable species and also we need to preserve exisiting forests and prevent land clearing to help cool and planet and bring carbon back to earth. I want this for my children and for future generations – trees and nature are essential for all our mental and physical health.

Queensland needs to step up and take responsibility to do what we must to contribute to responsible and appropriate action to manage the country’s and the global response to climate change. There will be some difficult decisions and actions to make because we, and the rest of the world, have become so reliant on high carbon producing forms of energy. However, with resolve to work to address climate change and all that that means, with the knowledge we now have accumulated over the past and the amazing abilities and skills we have as humans there is hope that changes can be made that will assist to lessen the already negative effects on the climate and environment and hopefully bring about some positive effects in the future. Queensland needs to be, and can be, at the front of such work. Decisions and choices made at government levels will have a big say in how effective responses can be.

The Qld Labour govt has a short-term view on environmental issues. Stop pandering to the fossil fuel industry or you will face the same voter backlash that the LNP and Labour suffered in the Fed election. Your govt is particularly backward in this regard, as well as your abyssmal record on other environmental protections such as land clearing. Get your act together!
