Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

I want Queensland to become a climate & nature champion because I’ve lived in this state for 42 of my 44 years, and Qld has an exceptional environment, from the Great Barrier Reef, to rainforest in the north to stunning Antarctic Beech Forest in the south. Plus, the diversity of animals is just breathtaking. What could be more important than protecting this for my about-to-born son’s generation?

I want Queensland to lead the way in renewable energy changes so our children and grandchildren have a chance of a life in a safe environment and I want Queensland to follow a lot of the ways of our first Australians in protecting the land for the future

I want this because it’s shameful that Queensland with all its natural resources and also talent should be anything other than a renewable energy superpower.

We need to protect the planet, reduce emissions drastically, and allow our worst affected natural habitats to regrow and replenish. This can begin here, in Queensland, by choosing to provide jobs
through sustainable, climate-friendly power sources, rather than leaving filthy, gaping holes in our planet from digging out tonnes and tonnes of limited fossil fuels and using other non renewable power sources which will inevitably run out sooner or later. If we don’t act now, what do we do when fossil fuels run out? AS THEY WILL!
