Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

Queensland needs to take the positive step of becoming a great investor in a better future for both climate and nature. We need to stop opening up new fossil fuel sites and realising that a future with a greatly reduced reliance on these destructive practices is nothing to fear. In fact a sustainable future with nature and the climate put front and centre of policy agendas can provide a huge dividend to our state and its people through reduced pollution and thousands of new jobs. It just takes a commitment to want this better future and then to take the actions to make it so. There is literally no time to waste.

I want Queensland to focus on sustainable climate solutions that provide jobs in clean energy (not coal or gas!), reduce pollution, stop endangering native animal and plant species, and which provide security and healthy living for future generations.

There is work underway in all present facets of renewable energy down to and including diets of cattle to reduce methane, we have such a wide base on which to grow, scientifically and practically. Let us show the rest of Australia that we can solve the problems created by fossil fuel use and replace it with renewable resources. We have the scientific know how, and bright scientists to solve problems which will arise. We just need the leadership and will to do it!!
