Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

National parks, recycled material in roadways and other major infrastructure, energy production grants and other initiatives towards cleaner energy, all steps to a better environment for our community.

We cant keep digging up fossil fuel and exporting it then calling it someone else’s problem. Time to get serious about the future. Queensland has all the natural resourses needed to lead the world on renewables . What it lacks is the political will.

Enough excuses and pandering to industry/unions.

I believe that we all co-exist, nature, climate and people. We need to nurture our environment for our future generations to live and enjoy like we do now. We are just custodians of this earth for our children.

We have the ability to lead the way for renewable energy, therefore we should.

Queensland has always prided itself in being better than NSW. NOW is our chance to prove it once again by quickly transitioning to renewables & leading the way not only in Australia but the world.

Queensland has the natural resources to become a climate solutions powerhouse. We just need the right policies. We already have a wide variety of ecosystems and attractions. We need to put in place the means to conserve them physically rather than just putting up planning which in some cases stops people from conserving important areas.

It is important that governments everywhere legislate to minimise our emissions. My grandchildren’s future is in your remit. Please consider the future not just immediate economics.

I want Queensland to become a climate champion state because we are full of sunshine up here and it just makes sense to become leaders in renewable energy. We have so many beautiful forests which need to be protected and we also have more space for planting more trees to help with carbon drawdown. We can do this Queensland!

I want Queenslanders to have clean air, clean water and clean food, and this depends mostly on clean energy, not prolonging the death throes of coal and oil.

I want Qld to be a climate champion because, at the moment, environmental degradation is out of control. The current Govt is still allowing the bulldozing of forest, scraps of wild habitat for all sorts of stupid reasons justifying it but saying it creates jobs. Jobs at what cost? How many short term jobs? We know what is going on. Too many Govt decisions disregard what ordinary people want and instead support big business agendas. Jobs without lifestyle are useless. Short term jobs to line the pockets of the few is a waste of common resources.

Qld Govt committed to slashing CO2 emissions by 50% yet allows endless bulldozing of bushland. All rhetoric and no action. Sick of it people. Please stop the destruction of our remnant bushland for the sake of a few people making lots of money. Please look after the environment for all the people for as long as possible.

Koalas and other creatures are doomed with the current rate of forest and bushland destruction. Cynical to talk about saving the koalas when their habitat is destroyed by ministerial direction! Approvals to destroy country destroys habitat and kills wildlife.
Just stop it. Instead support renewables, but not at the expense of the environment. Please listen to the environmental scientists who are doing their best to understand and protect what is left of what has been destroyed so wantonly and on such a grand scale.

Surely the Labor Govt in Qld and Federally can behave responsibly for change. If not, we will lose all the wonder and glory of nature and the beauty that the non-human world brings.

I want Queensland to become a climate and nature champion because time is running out, the planet is warming and we should not exacerbate the heating. Surely we have the courage to put the brakes on!
