Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

I want this because it’s shameful that Queensland with all its natural resources and also talent should be anything other than a renewable energy superpower.

I want Queensland to be a climate and nature champion because we must do everything we can to stabilise climate change and save as much nature as we can.

We need to protect the planet, reduce emissions drastically, and allow our worst affected natural habitats to regrow and replenish. This can begin here, in Queensland, by choosing to provide jobs
through sustainable, climate-friendly power sources, rather than leaving filthy, gaping holes in our planet from digging out tonnes and tonnes of limited fossil fuels and using other non renewable power sources which will inevitably run out sooner or later. If we don’t act now, what do we do when fossil fuels run out? AS THEY WILL!

We need action in favour of the environment and climate now. No more ‘new’ fossil fuel sources should be permitted.

Mother Earth can only take so much abusive from humanity before she will react.. climate change is one aspect of her reactions… we can prevent this with proper intelligent forward planning for a better world.

I want Queensland to be a climate and nature champion because the threat of anthropogenic climate change is rapidly diminishing Australia’s important biodiversity.

I want Queensland to become a global leader in renewable energy and spearhead Australia’s push to slash CO2 emissions by 50%. We have a shocking record on land clearing. We need to halt the destruction of habitat and create new jobs though sustainable energy, tree planting and forest protection.

National parks, recycled material in roadways and other major infrastructure, energy production grants and other initiatives towards cleaner energy, all steps to a better environment for our community.

We cant keep digging up fossil fuel and exporting it then calling it someone else’s problem. Time to get serious about the future. Queensland has all the natural resourses needed to lead the world on renewables . What it lacks is the political will.
