This week we've learned that tech company Siemens is considering a dirty deal with Adani.

Adani needs a company to install signalling on the 200km railway it will use to transport coal to the coast. Only a few companies in Australia can do this work – and all except Siemens have ruled it out!

Call any (or all!) of these Siemens offices and ask them to leave a message for Jeff Connolly (CEO Siemens Australia & Pacific) and Raphaelle Guerineau (CEO Siemens Mobility Australia & New Zealand). Ask them to rule out working on the climate-wrecking project.

Report back on your call so we can count our impact.

1. Siemens Australia Head Office – (03) 9721 2000
2. Siemens Mobility Melbourne Office (03) 9616 9000
3. Siemens Corporate Enquiries – 137 222

Calling tips

  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Siemens' decision to work with Adani, not its employees.
  • These calls don't have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick so you can get through as many as you can!
  • You may be asked to direct your message to their website – you can politely decline that, and leave your message with the staff member you are speaking to.
  • Ask directly for Siemens to rule out work on Adani's coal mine and rail project. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal.

Talking points

Remember, you don't need to be an expert on climate damage or anything else! You have a right to make this call and share your concerns about Siemens supporting a climate-wrecking project. Here are some talking points to help your call:

  • Share your support for Siemens committing to the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Remind Siemens that helping Adani dig up and export coal for burning is incompatible with the Paris Agreement.
  • Mention that burning coal is the biggest cause of climate damage – and the Adani mine would open the Galilee Basin to one of the biggest expansions of coal mining on planet Earth.
  • Suggest that by backing clean energy and refusing to work on dangerous projects like coal mines, companies like Siemens can provide solutions to the climate crisis – not be part of the problem.

The lady said she’d make a note, but hung up when I offered to give her my name (think she just wanted to get off the phone quickly, which hopefully means they’re getting a lot of annoying phone calls…)

The switchboard operator was polite. I was thanked for my call. I have no idea if my call was treated seriously, or if it would be counted as a statistic, or if calls would even be passed on.

I was essentially ignored beside my details being taken. Australian aboriginals have been dieing for like over three hundred years due to lands rights. Where is Aboriginal power within Australian government?? 2020 and zero clear vision!!

i called. they just politely took note. at least we all tried. the fact that Siemens is even considering supporting Adani shows we are doomed. someone needs to threaten to sue Morrison for his abrogation of duty of care to his citizens

1. Siemens Aust Head Office – on hold for about 3 mins, on hearing why I was calling, polite direction to send an email to [email protected]. Not prepared to put me through to anyone for discussion. Will email that address.
2. Siemens Mobility. answered call immediately, on hearing why I was calling, polite direction to go to the website, refused to put me through and requested my name and phone number, which I gave.

I called the head office and asked to leave a message for Jeff Connolly and Raphaelle Guerineau and basically before I could say anything else the person who answered politely said “Your message will be passed on about your concern and thanks for calling”. Oh well I guess that at least indicates they are getting lots of us calling with the same message :)

The Australian Head Office ph is now a fax line and the Melbourne Head Office has been disconnected. I got through on the 13 number. The woman who answered was brief and simply wanted to know if I supported their work with Adani or not; obviously my answer was I don’t support it.
She said she was very busy because she had a lot of calls to answer regarding the issue, which is fantastic!
Suzanne 2019-12-11 11:35:50 +1100
I called, left my message and she said that she would pass it along. She didn’t seem genuine though.

Rang 039721 2000 and got answering machine after waiting 5 mins on hold, left message. Then rang 137222 and waited 4 mins for answer, she listened to my message and then said “OK, thanks for your call” and hung up.
Judith 2019-12-11 11:34:59 +1100
I told the woman who answered that Id appreciate if she passed on to the CEO my concerns that Siemens was considering working with Adani, given what we know are the causes and impacts of climate change, and that NSW is currently burning due to ever higher temperatures and drought. I added that it would be very irresponsible of the company to proceed. The woman thanked me and hung up.
