This week we've learned that tech company Siemens is considering a dirty deal with Adani.

Adani needs a company to install signalling on the 200km railway it will use to transport coal to the coast. Only a few companies in Australia can do this work – and all except Siemens have ruled it out!

Call any (or all!) of these Siemens offices and ask them to leave a message for Jeff Connolly (CEO Siemens Australia & Pacific) and Raphaelle Guerineau (CEO Siemens Mobility Australia & New Zealand). Ask them to rule out working on the climate-wrecking project.

Report back on your call so we can count our impact.

1. Siemens Australia Head Office – (03) 9721 2000
2. Siemens Mobility Melbourne Office (03) 9616 9000
3. Siemens Corporate Enquiries – 137 222

Calling tips

  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Siemens' decision to work with Adani, not its employees.
  • These calls don't have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick so you can get through as many as you can!
  • You may be asked to direct your message to their website – you can politely decline that, and leave your message with the staff member you are speaking to.
  • Ask directly for Siemens to rule out work on Adani's coal mine and rail project. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal.

Talking points

Remember, you don't need to be an expert on climate damage or anything else! You have a right to make this call and share your concerns about Siemens supporting a climate-wrecking project. Here are some talking points to help your call:

  • Share your support for Siemens committing to the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Remind Siemens that helping Adani dig up and export coal for burning is incompatible with the Paris Agreement.
  • Mention that burning coal is the biggest cause of climate damage – and the Adani mine would open the Galilee Basin to one of the biggest expansions of coal mining on planet Earth.
  • Suggest that by backing clean energy and refusing to work on dangerous projects like coal mines, companies like Siemens can provide solutions to the climate crisis – not be part of the problem.

I phoned the Sydney and Melbourne offices and asked for messages to be given to the respective CEOs. In both cases, the admin staff took my contact details and directed me to the Siemens website in order to leave specific details on my concerns – which I duly did. Andrew N

Very well – was very polite and lady taking call said she had been inundated. I spoke with Head Office.
Said I was very concerned that Siemens were even considering working on the Adani coal mine…

Do not involve your reputable business with Adani Coal, please put our planet and the lives of our children before profit from s dirty outdated resource.
Mike 2019-12-11 14:03:23 +1100
Receptionist was friendly and polite but not interested in talking about my concerns. Said she would register all the calls and let the CEO know. There seems to be a bit of a script “thank you for your concern I will let Mr Connolly know that you called.” I had to remind her to take my name.
Tanya 2019-12-11 14:02:38 +1100
Called Head Office and asked for a message to be passed on to Jeff Connolly that I am concerned they are considering working with Adani and am asking they rule out doing so for the sake of the climate and all our futures. Was thanked for calling and told the message would be passed on!
Julie 2019-12-11 14:01:36 +1100
Message will be passed on .

I called all three numbers. I left messages on the first two. A PA answered the Corporate Enquiries number. I told her my concerns with a company with the calibre of Siemens becoming involved with Adani’s climate -wrecking coal mining project. I asked to speak with the CE or a high level manager and she said my concerns would be taken to the CE.
Eric 2019-12-11 14:00:26 +1100
Sydney call was polite and staff assured me they would pass on my concerns to CEO.
Melbourne Mobility office had a recording to leave a message; so I left a polite message and mentioned that I would call again later to talk to a staff memeber.
Alice 2019-12-11 14:00:21 +1100
I called all 3 numbers. 1. Left a message for Jeff Connolly. Was told to send an email. Refused. Persisted with my message of congratulating the company for committing to the Paris agreement but said supporting Adani was a contradiction of the Paris agreement. Said we were in climate emergency & burning coal would only make climate change worse. Why not committing to clean energy alternatives. A very bored voice said the message would be passed on. The same message was passed onto the other 2 receptionists. I felt the last message was merely recorded.
Jenny 2019-12-11 14:00:05 +1100
Polite but just admit saying they would pass on my concern

Operator was polite but curt – she listened as I stated I would not be purchasing any of their products if they went this route; and that if Adani touched the aquifers, it was curtains for an already severely stressed country.
Jaya 2019-12-11 13:56:02 +1100
