This week we've learned that tech company Siemens is considering a dirty deal with Adani.

Adani needs a company to install signalling on the 200km railway it will use to transport coal to the coast. Only a few companies in Australia can do this work – and all except Siemens have ruled it out!

Call any (or all!) of these Siemens offices and ask them to leave a message for Jeff Connolly (CEO Siemens Australia & Pacific) and Raphaelle Guerineau (CEO Siemens Mobility Australia & New Zealand). Ask them to rule out working on the climate-wrecking project.

Report back on your call so we can count our impact.

1. Siemens Australia Head Office – (03) 9721 2000
2. Siemens Mobility Melbourne Office (03) 9616 9000
3. Siemens Corporate Enquiries – 137 222

Calling tips

  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Siemens' decision to work with Adani, not its employees.
  • These calls don't have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick so you can get through as many as you can!
  • You may be asked to direct your message to their website – you can politely decline that, and leave your message with the staff member you are speaking to.
  • Ask directly for Siemens to rule out work on Adani's coal mine and rail project. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal.

Talking points

Remember, you don't need to be an expert on climate damage or anything else! You have a right to make this call and share your concerns about Siemens supporting a climate-wrecking project. Here are some talking points to help your call:

  • Share your support for Siemens committing to the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Remind Siemens that helping Adani dig up and export coal for burning is incompatible with the Paris Agreement.
  • Mention that burning coal is the biggest cause of climate damage – and the Adani mine would open the Galilee Basin to one of the biggest expansions of coal mining on planet Earth.
  • Suggest that by backing clean energy and refusing to work on dangerous projects like coal mines, companies like Siemens can provide solutions to the climate crisis – not be part of the problem.

The lady was pleasant and said that the msg would be passed on. When I asked her to read back the msg I left she said she wasnt able to take every msg down because a lot of people were calling and leaving msgs. She noted my name and said it will be added to the msgs that people have left already.

Had to wait a short time, and was answered by a very pleasant person, who said she’d pass my message on. Don’t be put off by the negative comments of other callers.

Called all three numbers.
Unsurprisingly, neither Jeff Connolly or Raphaelle Guerineau were available to take my call.
Left messages critical of Siemens considering involvement in Adani, which were to be passed through to the appropriate department. In Raphaelle’s case, my position and company were also noted, along with my telephone number. So I am expecting a call back from somebody at Siemens on this.

Rang once and after a recorded message got cut off. Rand again – no chance to talk to a person so left a message for the CEO and the board. To reject building the Adani mine as it goes against their signing of the Paris agreement. Urged them to replace the project with a renewables project the didn’t use water and created jobs for Australians.

Coal’s day is over!! It has been wonderful for us – now it is not. Because we know better now. We must give it up if we want to save the climate and possibly the planet. Please make a note of these comments,

Left message registering my alarm that Siemens would even consider any involvement with the Adani project

I left a message – simply asking that they don’t support Adani because we must leave fossil fuels in the ground to have a hope in hell at a livable planet.

To day, Saturday the 7th. of December, I have left a message asking for a spokesperson for Jeff Connoly to call me back during the next office hours.

I left a message saying while I understood business is important for companies I believe we should be only do business with those that ensure our future. If we get to the state of social and economic unrest that people like Ian Dunlop and many others, including the scientific community, are describing then profits made today will be nun and void if we don’t halt climate change.

Left message Saying how disappointed I was in them supporting your Adani
David 2019-12-06 18:36:51 +1100
I messaged them on Facebook saying it was not a worthy development in the face of the climate catastrophe. I also expressed my confidence that public opinion would sooner or later put a stop to the proposal and any company unwise enough to get involved with it was likely to find they were on a big loser.

Hi. Forgetting all about daylight saving time I rang too late to speak with a real person but I did leave a polite message for Siemens, suggesting that they could do better by the entire world by NOT supporting a company like Adani. I also suggested that Siemens, a respected company, would not be doing its own reputation any good at all by working with Adani, known world wide for destroying the environment at any cost in any country and then leaving without a backward glance. I also managed on a second call to speak about the dubious financial status of Adani. I left my name and contact number to show my identity, and as an option for someone to call me back during business hours. Not sure if this will happen but there are now two more phone calls registered there as well as my comments on Facebook. Thank you for all your hard work and for making this format available. So good to have the relevant phone numbers waiting as well as the talking points. from Kim

Please do not help out the Adani mine, we do not want the mine. Its time climate change was taken seriously. Not to mention the water they will be using. Totally against it.

Spoke to a woman and asked to leave a message for the CEO which I did voicing concerns re Siemens commitment to the Paris Agreement and that working for Adani’s coalmine totally contradicts this critical issue
Catherine 2019-12-06 17:10:00 +1100
well – i spoke to the lady at reception. I told her what my feelings were, encouraging Siemens not to morally corrupt themselves by assisting Adani’s mine. She listened. She was nice. I said “will this message go through to Siemans, of my complaint/opinion?” and she then gave me an email address [“customer care etc”] I said I had already sent an email… she was pleasant – we left it there.

Called head office. The woman at the end of the line took my name and number when I asked to speak to someone about Siemens’ involvement with Adani. Do you think someone will call me back?
