Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project is one of Australia's most polluting new fossil fuel projects.

To be built off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough Project threatens local marine wildlife. The processing of the gas also puts at risk 40,000-year-old Murujuga rock art.

It would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station.

Most of the gas dug up at Scarborough would be burnt overseas. But no matter where Australian coal and gas are burned, it damages our climate and impacts communities here and around the world. From the Great Barrier Reef in the east to Ningaloo Reef in the west, our living world is counting on us to stop climate-polluting projects like Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project.

Sign the petition now to the Albanese Government demanding no new coal and gas projects or infrastructure, including Woodside's Scarborough gas project.

Petition demands

"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister and Environment Minister,

End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:

  • This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
  • No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
  • Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."

Our state and federal governments are handing over $22,000 in public money every minute to the polluting coal and gas industries, which fuel climate impacts like more extreme floods, fires and droughts.

We cannot afford to keep squandering public money on digging, expanding, exporting and burning coal and gas.

For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

Sign the petition and call on our government to step up for climate action.

its just wrong, to disturb pristene waters and habitats.

The oceans are already so polluted which is negatively impacting sea life. This is also includes noise pollution which impacts whales and dolphins. I am also concerned about potential damage to the Ningaloo reef and surrounds.

Protection of our natural environment, marine wildlife and Aboriginal history is critically important and any risks to their preservation are to be prevented.

With recent predictions for a spring and summer with extreme fire dangers in Australia and the constant series of news articles on firestorms in locations that are unknown for fire, it is time to take actual action against more emissions instead of simply setting targets. Scarborough MUST NOT go ahead.

We need to look after the environment even if it means losing some financial gain.

All the profits go offshore anyway and very few jobs created from this. So WHY??? For goodness sake stop this madness.

Regarding Woodside’s plan to drill for gas off the coast of Western Australia.

I am very concerned about the billions of tonnes of climate change emissions from the Burrup Hub. I am also concerned about its impact on marine wildlife, such as sea turtles and whales, and important habitats like Scott Reef and Mermaid Reef.

You will now lose the next election for not supporting the environment, Australian animals or standing up for a future by negating climate change. Australians are devasted as endangered Pygmy Blue Whales have not been protected by the environmental watch dog NOPESMA who is allowing WOODSIDE to carry out at least 8 months of non stop deafening seismic blasting in their foraging and breeding grounds right on their migratory pathways.
