Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project is one of Australia's most polluting new fossil fuel projects.

To be built off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough Project threatens local marine wildlife. The processing of the gas also puts at risk 40,000-year-old Murujuga rock art.

It would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station.

Most of the gas dug up at Scarborough would be burnt overseas. But no matter where Australian coal and gas are burned, it damages our climate and impacts communities here and around the world. From the Great Barrier Reef in the east to Ningaloo Reef in the west, our living world is counting on us to stop climate-polluting projects like Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project.

Sign the petition now to the Albanese Government demanding no new coal and gas projects or infrastructure, including Woodside's Scarborough gas project.

Petition demands

"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister and Environment Minister,

End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:

  • This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
  • No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
  • Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."

Our state and federal governments are handing over $22,000 in public money every minute to the polluting coal and gas industries, which fuel climate impacts like more extreme floods, fires and droughts.

We cannot afford to keep squandering public money on digging, expanding, exporting and burning coal and gas.

For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

Sign the petition and call on our government to step up for climate action.

Please stop this, we cannot go on destroying marine life and polluting the planet. Seriously when will we learn… when its too late obviously.

Cannot be permitted. What’s the difference between selling this product which kills and presents an existential threat, a drug cartel. No other corporation is allowed to sell a product that presents such a threat.

Humanity, food chains and biodiversity are in crisis due to climate change resulting from fossil energy emissions. No more!

It’s beyond irresponsible to even contemplate opening a new gas well. Scientists have made it very clear – we are on the edge of a climate precipice, if not tumbling over the edge. We must stop all new fossil fuel projects.

Australia needs to export less gas not more to reduce carbon emissions world-wide.
