Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project is one of Australia's most polluting new fossil fuel projects.
To be built off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough Project threatens local marine wildlife. The processing of the gas also puts at risk 40,000-year-old Murujuga rock art.
It would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station.
Most of the gas dug up at Scarborough would be burnt overseas. But no matter where Australian coal and gas are burned, it damages our climate and impacts communities here and around the world. From the Great Barrier Reef in the east to Ningaloo Reef in the west, our living world is counting on us to stop climate-polluting projects like Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project.
Sign the petition now to the Albanese Government demanding no new coal and gas projects or infrastructure, including Woodside's Scarborough gas project.
Petition demands
"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister and Environment Minister,
End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:
- This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
- No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
- Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."
Our state and federal governments are handing over $22,000 in public money every minute to the polluting coal and gas industries, which fuel climate impacts like more extreme floods, fires and droughts.
We cannot afford to keep squandering public money on digging, expanding, exporting and burning coal and gas.
For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.
Sign the petition and call on our government to step up for climate action.

I want to stop this project to protect the marine wildlife in our oceans and the significant Murujuga Rock Art. We should be protecting Ningaloo Gulf also, give that world heritage listing.
it makes me cry to be honest.
It’s sacred land and it will release lots of carbon emissions
I’m against destroying whale the whale highways, find somewhere else to do it, I would volunteer to go and tie myself to the blast lines if it was documented that I did it only to show that human lives are equal to the lives of the whales, if Woodside was to blow the lines while I was attached then it could or would be shown to the world and the world might take more notice as sadly people don’t walk around the streets with pods of whales on the street side so they go largely unnoticed and the value of such a place as a whale Highway or breeding and feeding paths could be greatly affected as mothers feeding their calves at such areas are also learning that this is there migration passage and when the calf grows it is taught the same migration route as it was taught by its mother and hundreds of mothers, fathers, and other members in their pods have been taught by their elders. To destroy the known pathways of whales, calves and there pods is a great possibility that it will completely destroy thousands of years of passed down knowledge of their migration routes and cause future generations to not take their migration paths and instead beach themselves or fall victim to unsafe and unprotected waters where they will be killed.
I don’t need to list the numerous reasons why this gas project needs to STOP NOW. They are obvious
Please plan for the future generations. God bless.
Nature is more important and if you can’t mine without hurting or disturbing nature then don’t do it. Corporations have destroyed the earth enough and only for greed.
i hope to live in a country that puts the environment first before greed, i wish more people cared a knew about this
Woodside are recklessly pushing ahead with the dangerous Burrup Hub project, ignoring the enormous risk to the climate and environment. I am appalled this lease has even been granted. Shame on Woodside and Shame on the governing bodies who think our planet is nothing more than cash and use their wrecking ball to steal it from the people, the marine life, the future.
It’s 2023, there is other technology we should be pursuing. Investment in gas is a backward step. Particularly anything this harmful to environmental.
For a brighter and cleaner future
