Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project is one of Australia's most polluting new fossil fuel projects.

To be built off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough Project threatens local marine wildlife. The processing of the gas also puts at risk 40,000-year-old Murujuga rock art.

It would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station.

Most of the gas dug up at Scarborough would be burnt overseas. But no matter where Australian coal and gas are burned, it damages our climate and impacts communities here and around the world. From the Great Barrier Reef in the east to Ningaloo Reef in the west, our living world is counting on us to stop climate-polluting projects like Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project.

Sign the petition now to the Albanese Government demanding no new coal and gas projects or infrastructure, including Woodside's Scarborough gas project.

Petition demands

"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister and Environment Minister,

End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:

  • This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
  • No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
  • Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."

Our state and federal governments are handing over $22,000 in public money every minute to the polluting coal and gas industries, which fuel climate impacts like more extreme floods, fires and droughts.

We cannot afford to keep squandering public money on digging, expanding, exporting and burning coal and gas.

For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

Sign the petition and call on our government to step up for climate action.

Jeopardizing the futures of many and for what purpose? Because it will help strengthen the economy? Because you have stocks in the company? Because you refuse to look past the digits in your bank account? Perhaps you could meticulously form a response that appeals to those that want to remain willfully ignorant of these truths but it will not appeal to me, so please tell me, why are you doing this to our communities, our family, our country? As I do not see a reasoning, a benefit, that outweighs the detriment this project may cause to our natural environment and communities.
Biodiversity is crucial for the continuation of our planet, we are already in our 6th mass extinction. Tell me, what is a strong economy in a world that is on fire?

Woodside is the embodiment of corporate evil. I have never seen such an inconsiderate, short-sighted, and empty plan in my life.

I want the Australian government to STOP the Woodside project from going ahead because the proposal would do immense damage to a precious untouched marine environment off the coast of Western Australia and would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station. The Australian LABOR government must stop this from going ahead.

The world is in the midst of the biggest crisis, of any type, ever faced by our species due to accumulated CO2 in the atmosphere. We’ve put it there by burning fossil fuels. And we’re still doing it. Climate heating is already here. This will get worse, even if we could magically stop all CO2 emissions immediately, due the inertia in the earth’s homeostatic systems. Accelerating CO2 emissions by developing new fossil fuel extraction projects must not be allowed. New FF projects must be stopped or the unavoidable climate catastrophe will become an unavoidable cataclysm with the strong likelihood that we will make our planet uninhabitable.

We have to protect the planet from greed. We have to preserve the planet for future generations. When you mine for gas, you are contributing to climate emergency, and you destroy ecosystems. Stop this immediately – I stand firmly with the aboriginal people.

It it absolutley ridiculous. More than ridiculous. Its evil shit. This shit needs to stop. I am more than happy for electricity to end its day and cease to exist. If it means the human race can continue, and start the journey of becoming a people of peace. Each pursuing their own divine purity. If anyone sees this comment. Lets stop these fuckers from stealing our beautiful and irreplaceable habitat and stop the greedy coal industry (and all those invested) all together!!!!

Dredging, blasting and polluting important marine ecosystems to extract fossil fuels and further contribute to greenhouse gas emissions? The environmental risks are simply not worth it. We need to protect our vulnerable species and their ecosystem and push sustainable energy alternatives.
