To all Australian banks,
As the funders for many of our biggest and boldest projects, you hold the unique power to direct huge money into solutions to the climate crisis — and away from making it worse. We urge you to invest in our future, not coal and gas. We call on you to:
- Set a deadline — 2030 or earlier — to end all your investments in thermal coal
- Rule out funding any new or expanded thermal coal, oil or gas projects
- Ramp up funding for climate solutions like clean energy

The fossil fuel industry is causing extreme planetary stress. I do not want my grand children to inherit an overheated planetary wasteland so please take the responsible decision and only fund clean energy solutions that are not devastating to our planet.

Banks have a responsibility to make sound business decisions on behalf of their clients and investing their client’s money in a stranded asset is not good business. Banks should look towards the renewable sector which is the future, not tie themselves and their clients to a dying fossil fuel industry which belongs in the past.
The World and your customer base are changing. There is information and more people are choosing to research before putting their money into organisations that stay in the old, destructive ways.

Our banks have a lot of clout. The climate scientists’ predictions of years ago have all come true. It’s time for the banks to set an ethical example and show leadership on climate change – it affects everything on the planet.
