Sign the open letter to the banks: #MoveYourMoney out of coal and gas

Very bad how zero action has been taken since this was first put to light back in 1998. In over 20 years we have done nothing apart from what benefits ourselves and the planet is paying for it. The little we have done (personal solar panels) is to lessen our own costs and is far too little too late.

Solutions to the climate — like clean energy from the sun and wind, batteries and transmission systems — are here and ready to scale. All banks are in the prime position to invest in projects that are good for our future, and save our climate for our children’s future and other future generations.

Follow the will of the people. Our elected officials do not seem to get it. The next election will usher them out, especially after the tragic fire season in Australia. The average Australian wants clean energy. Just do it – and we can get on with life.

I urge you to shape a better future for Australia and for the health of our citizens and for the planet by playing a leading role in the disinvestment in fossil based fuels.

There can no longer be any doubt, based on the well accepted science, and on our own recent experiences that we have to change the way we do business in the new climate change scenario.

Australia’s banks have a huge role to play, as very influential corporate citizens, and of course as a financier of major projects in leading a permanent move away from fossil fuels while we still have the chance to avoid the worst effects of global climate warming.

I urge you to end all investments in thermal coal by 2030, to rule of providing funding for any new fossil fuel projects, and to seriously increase funding to renewable based solutions to our ever mounting climate crisis.

This is the time for you, to stand up and be counted. We depend on you and need you to act.
