To all Australian banks,

As the funders for many of our biggest and boldest projects, you hold the unique power to direct huge money into solutions to the climate crisis — and away from making it worse. We urge you to invest in our future, not coal and gas. We call on you to:

  • Set a deadline — 2030 or earlier — to end all your investments in thermal coal
  • Rule out funding any new or expanded thermal coal, oil or gas projects
  • Ramp up funding for climate solutions like clean energy

We’ve known about the need to transition out of fossil fuels for years. It’s time to do something about ending investments in thermal coal.

It’s beyond time to recognise the human race is not invincible. We need to take action ahead and not be so confident everything can always be solved after an event. There is a way to be ahead – to proactively look after our planet. It’s obvious to us so YOU must be looking in the wrong direction – or blind to what’s happening all around us.

As the corvid-19 virus is showing, the world must work together to solve the crises we have made. This includes STOPPING CLIMATE CHANGE. As Sir David Attenborough so thoughtfully said recently “The fact is, no species has ever had such control over everything on earth, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all living creatures with whom we share the earth”
As the providers funding to companies that are exacerbating climate change, banks have the power to be a major part of the solution or be a part of the problem. Please head this letter and become a part of the solution.

We have lost so much bush we can,t afford to destroy more by digging up and using coal and seam gas to further pollute also our water ways and ocean the complete chain of life needs to be maintained as much as possible otherwise we continue to destroy our world money doesn,t help if we have no air to breathe water to drink or sun to grow food

With our Federal Government apparently under the influence of the fossil fuel industry, it falls to us to find other ways to maximise the chance that our grandchildren will have an environment that is habitable. The government has failed to protect Australians.

The Big Four banks have considerable financial muscle to help reduce global warming by refusing to fund it. We must use every lever we have, to make up for the failings of our government.
