Coles and Woolworths both claim they’re doing good things for our climate.
So why are these supermarkets both card-carrying members of one of Australia’s shadiest climate-wrecking lobby groups: the Business Council of Australia (BCA)? It just doesn't check out.
Over the past few decades the BCA has strategically undermined a long list of climate policies in Australia. As a result, climate pollution in this country is going up, not down like it must if we are to continue enjoying life on our beautiful planet.
By weakening the BCA’s membership, we can neutralise their influence over climate policy in Australia – and get back on track in building a future that’s good for everyone and every living thing.
Sign the open letter now asking Coles and Woolworths to leave the climate-wrecking BCA:
As customers, shareholders and employees of Coles and Woolworths, we call on the supermarket giants to leave the Business Council of Australia (BCA) – it continues to undermine climate policy in Australia and advocate for the weakening of environmental laws.
We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action.

The BCA stymie action on climate change. After a devastating week of bushfires and the real possibility of a horrific fire season ahead you should think very carefully about with whom you wish to be associated.

Climate change is real. Where will the produce come from when droughts become more severe and longer lasting, when bush fires and floods become more frequent. A blighted land cannot produce the food or feed the sheep and cattle you need to run your business.
What is available will be too expensive for most of your customers. Talk to your producers and suppliers, they live climate change every day.
Cease dealing with climate deniers. They moving to their own agenda and their own vested interests.

Relinquish your membership to the BCA, they bring your business into disrepute.
It’s time to commit to environmental and social governance, also for large corporations such as Woolworths and Coles.
The Business Council of Australia is still entrenched in anti climate activities and therefore they do not fit into the ESG criteria.
There is no time anymore for looking away or pretending. Leadership and action is required.
By severing your ties to the BCA you are showing your real intend. Rest assured, increased shareholder activities will follow, also from new ESG focused fund managers.
this is one of the best things you can do for our future generations
I will never forgive Coles for what you did to the dairy farmers (I now buy my dairy products from a retailer which respects them) but your continued association with the Business Council could well drive me away completely.
Seems to me Woolworths main priority is to keep the Stock holders happy.
That means a significant decrease in overall customer service while implementing further increases to the overall costs for the customer. Both Woolworths & Coles have brought the Australian Dairy Farmers to breaking point on top of dealing with Drought upon Drought over the past years.
Shame on you!
The Business Council of Australia has helped undermine policies to address climate change, making things worse for us. I worry about my grandchildren having any kind of good life. Please leave the BCA and help us.
Dear Mr Coles . . . if you’re with the BCA then you are showing you are not with the people. The BCA care more about money than the planet. We, the people, love and need this planet, the only one we have. Stop being in bed with the villains,
Woolworths and Coles need to consider their customers . Any organisation that contributes to climate change I will refuse to be a customer where there is an alternative!
