Coles and Woolworths both claim they’re doing good things for our climate.
So why are these supermarkets both card-carrying members of one of Australia’s shadiest climate-wrecking lobby groups: the Business Council of Australia (BCA)? It just doesn't check out.
Over the past few decades the BCA has strategically undermined a long list of climate policies in Australia. As a result, climate pollution in this country is going up, not down like it must if we are to continue enjoying life on our beautiful planet.
By weakening the BCA’s membership, we can neutralise their influence over climate policy in Australia – and get back on track in building a future that’s good for everyone and every living thing.
Sign the open letter now asking Coles and Woolworths to leave the climate-wrecking BCA:
As customers, shareholders and employees of Coles and Woolworths, we call on the supermarket giants to leave the Business Council of Australia (BCA) – it continues to undermine climate policy in Australia and advocate for the weakening of environmental laws.
We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action.

Your companies have good environmental policies and I applaud what you have been doing re energy sustainability and less packaging etc.. BUT please consider how all your good work is negated by the actions of the BCA as they repeatedly undermine effective policies brought forward by any Australian government. They are the mouthpiece of the mining lobby NOT socially responsible supermarkets. Please leave them now and join other responsible businesses to have an impact on climate change. We, the people of Australia depend upon you to take action for all our sakes.
The times are changing Coles and Woolies, time to ditch membership of the BCA that does not support the action we need for the climate emergency.
Act yesterday! Don’t delay – bring in Solar, wind, desalination, waste removal like Singapore- what are you waiting for? I think your pocket is lined enough!!!
The time is now! Please change!
Would coles and Woolworths please truly acknowledge climate control and leave the BCA ,& stop wrapping food in plastic ,cellophane is an environmentally friendly substitute .
I love what Woolworths and Coles are doing with Redcycle. But please do more… a lot more!
Please cut all ties to this climate-wrecking lobby group.
The time to act is now. There is no planet B.
