As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.
Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.
Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:
“Dear Premier,
During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.
If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.
We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

I am so concerned about our politicians’ shortsightedness on this issue. This mine is a major catastrophe waiting to happen – for the water table, the reef, the very health of our landscape. Coal is old news. All that we seem to hear from politicians is about the jobs mines create. Just think about how many more jobs will be created by embracing clean energy. Time to think outside the box Ms Palaszczuk!
It is either viable or not , no to corporate welfare .
Drought in so many places in Australia, water should be our first concern. Water security emergency, we cannot afford to give so much to Adani. They are an unethical company and have a terrible record so far. No to Adani! Sustainable solutions.
Stop adani, we don’t want it! Stop selling out our children, the environment and traditional land owners.
RENEWABLES
No special royalty deals AKA taxpayer support for Adani
This deal must not go ahead. How can any government allow such a giveaway of cash when their own population is struggling. Better to put that money into renewables for our childrens’ future.
Time to start putting our state first. We should have been working on renewable for the last 20 years, let’s start now before it’s too late. And don’t get me started on the water Adani will use.
Stop throwing away our childrens future. There is no reason to allow this filthy mine to go ahead. Adani want our water, and Queensland is suffering the worst drought in history. The fact is there are so few jobs coming from this mine that you are cheating the state. I know, I live in Gladstone and there are no jobs being offered. Be smart, dump the whole project and protect our future.
Taxpayers should absolutely not be funding this and nor should we be giving them our precious water.
What were you thinking ????
No public money for Adani
I don’t think the taxpayer should give any money for coal mining projects. We need to create better environments for people and animals.
No more Australian Taxpayer money should be given to ADANI, or any other company wanting to open Coal Mines. If they can’t afford the costs involved, they should not be given approval. Royalties are our entitlement for the destruction and pollution of our land. If they can’t afford it, withdraw their approval. NOW!!
