As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

There is no such thing as responsible fossil fuel management in the current state of Earth’s health. The people of Queensland are in absolute water scarcity and you’re organising it to be used for mining. It is shameful that you are so corrupt that you allow fossil fuel mining and live export to continue. It’s high time for all of the current corrupt politicians including yourself to be jailed for your crimes against humanity and the environment!

It is a huge mistake allowing any mine to go ahead in this area but to cut a deal with Adani with no benefit at all, paid taxpayers. Reckless and irresponsible to all Australians.

Won’t be voting labor for 1st time in my voting life (50 years) if the state government allows the mine to go ahead

How you could even contemplate dealing with this organisation is beyond crazy! To give away precious water when farmers are in this incredible drought and Qld is surrounded by fires is just criminal! You are accountable for your decisions …

This is disgraceful and Annastasia and Morrison will live long enough to face major public humiliation should this proceed.

The Indians are developing huge areas with solar panels. They won’t want to buy coal.. We also need our water for farmers..

This entire project is so far from making any sense. The coal Industry is dying, The water is getting less and less. The predicted Climate Crisis and well under way and can not denied. Unless you are bought and have special self interest. There is no other logical reason. Please do not make a deal with the devil! Develop QLD renewable Energy Sector and produce almost free energy! One can only imagine how QLD would prosper.
Axel 2019-11-30 10:54:52 +1100
On no level does this stack up. It is a climate disaster AND there are no jobs. Adani themselves say they’re heading for fully automated mine. Invest in renewables and create real lasting jobs instead please.

From the depths of my soul, I do not understand what QLD is getting out of this deal: we’re paying Adani to dig up coal, take our water, damage the reef, for what? Maybe 900 jobs but that’s less and less likely as reports of increasing automation on mines are announced. Why? Please – just one sensible reason about what’s in it for the people of QLD and Oz?
Anne 2019-11-30 10:43:15 +1100
This will one day be an embarrassment to all who are assisting this coal mine to begin operating. Then they will have to live with the shame.
