As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

This is not good for the country, workforce or planet.
The world over dirty energy is being replaced by cleaner more sustainable. To cling to antiquated technology would be negligent & let our country down.
The money would be much better spent elsewhere

Every single cent you give this financial disaster called Adani is a taxpayer dollar WE will never get back.

Why do politician put so much time and
effort into a polluting and ultimately dying industry when their contribution to the economy and jobs gets smaller and less relevant every day?

Oh, that’s right, donations.

BREAK THE CYCLE, ANNA!

Adani is not just an issue for Queensland. The future of our planet is at stake. Queensland is burning. The Reef belongs to all of us and it is dying. You cannot support this mine in any way, or any other new coal mines for that matter. Support renewables instead.
Kate 2019-11-30 13:45:15 +1100
Wendy Martin Please don’t break your promise to NOT give any public money to Adani- don’t give them access to our water. If the mine is allowed to open they have said it will be automated from pit to port- There are no substantial numbers of jobs or money injected into local economies- all the profit will go offshore. We can’t afford the carbon emissions, we can’t afford the water wastage, we can’t afford the environmental destruction. Stop this project NOW

Another broken election promise. How much is the government being paid to support ADANI?

Do NOT subsidise a foreign owned company. If the project is financially viable, the company needs to raise the required funds from the open market an pay a return to the citizens of Queensland by paying ALL taxes and royalties.

Adani does not need any subsidies. It mustn’t be paid one cent to ruin our country and the world’s atmosphere. And their water concessions must be reversed. It is astonishing and shameful that the Queensland government has considered any subsidies to Adani. Afterall it is going to cost the country a fortune to clean up the mess of Adani afterwards. They won’t be around to pay for it.

this is ridiculous. How dare any government even consider the deals that have been offered here?

Do not risk Queensland’s finances and environment on this potential disaster. You have been warned over and over again that Adani is not viable. Listen – and act accordingly.

A deal with Adani makes no sense. The digging up and burning of coal from the Galilee Basin is not conducive with life on this planet.

Moving to Queensland next year, and will be voting in the next election! I am watching what happens with the Adani Mine and so far Ms Palaszcuk you are not doing anything that would make me vote for you. I want a future for my grandchildren and at this rate, the future looks grim, Adani will take our most precious resource- water – and destroy the reef.. Now is the time to stop further mining of fossil fuels and be a leader in supporting the transition to the renewable energy.
