Lodge a missing creature alert with your Member of Parliament

Missing_Creature_Report__600px_web_Numbat.jpg

Numbats have stolen our hearts! These adorable marsupials sleep in hollow fallen logs or burrows and eat 20,000 termites a day with their long sticky tongues. They don’t drink water – termites keep them hydrated.

Numbat families used to live from Victoria to WA, but because of habitat destruction, foxes and cats, now they cling to existence in just two places in the wild.

Will you lodge a missing creature alert with your local Member of Parliament? Tell them we need strong national environment laws to protect the places and wildlife we love – and ask them to raise this with their party leader.

Fill out the webform with your name and why you care. We'll print your name and message on a special missing creature alert and post it to your local MP. If you prefer, you can print and post it yourself.

We are part of the web of life if one goes down it slowly unravels. But it’s not just one species. This isn’t speculation it’s fact. Please do something.

Hi Jenny, have YOU heard of Wombats before? They are the cutest little Australian animal – a bit like a fox with stripes, that feeds on termites! We definitely need lots of them, but there are only about 1,000 left, in just 2 places, no longer spread right across Australia.
We need strong national environment laws to protect our native animals and the land they live on – please talk to Bill Shorten about making this a priority!

Australians don’t want to lose more of our endemic species. It really would be easy to save all of our endangered flora and fauna. We don’t need to continue to destroy habitat and it’s past time we actively protected our planets diversity through laws.

When the numbers are gone, they are gone forever, no bringing them back. How many extinctions does Australia have to live with? Protect our wildlife with better laws please before it is too late.
Vivienne 2018-06-25 22:40:46 +1000
Australia has one of the highest rates of fauna extinction in the world, if not the highest. We need to be taking more preventative action, immediately. It is already too late for so many species, don’t make this another one.

Being from a rural town I have often seen our blessed creatures less in our environment. Numbats are on the edge of extinction and need to be supported to thrive again by providing a safe existence. Please help.

Australia has some of the most unique wildlife on the planet but we have little protection for them. Time to save what makes this country so special. Protect our wildlife and our eco systems.
Kym 2018-06-25 21:10:04 +1000
Protect biodiversity which ensures our planet can remain healthy to support us! Australia has a deplorable species extinction record. We must do more to protect the wild flora and fauna, or it will come back to bite…. our children.

If we dont start making big changes now to protect our environment it will soon be too late – make your legacy be that you stood up for our future rather than sold out to big business for short term greed.

Australia’s unique ecosystem, flora and fauna need protection. This shouldn’t not be part of any debate, it is logic.

While parties produce spin about tax cuts they promise will make life better for all of us; funding for saving our magnificent wildlife reduces until it becomes insignificant, and we add to our extinction rate – one of the highest in the world. In 200 years we have managed to devastate large swathes of this country; all in the name of “progress” , while the indigenous people coexisted in a sustainable way on this country for 40-60,000 years.
My vote will go to a party that has a vision for maintaining some of these wildlife treasures, in the hope there may be some of them still around for my grandchildren to see; alive – not in a museum.

We live in an amazing country with amazing wildlife and beautiful places. This is why visitors from overseas are attracted to our shores.

As an avid world traveller I sense when returning home to this great country that there is an ignorance to the well being of our native animals on a large scale .I can’t blame any one person or persons but believe it must be educated into our children more and thus will have a greater effect .Children putting pressure on parents and children growing up with the welfare of our creatures at stake.Even on my land where I used to frequently see Koalas and wallabies I no longer see.

We need stronger environmental laws to protect our unique wildlife, like the Numbat. Destruction of their habitat will inevitably lead to their extinction. You have the ability to help change laws so that these amazing creatures, and others, thrive. Without these wonderful termite eaters, what will happen with the balance of nature once they’re gone?
Cheryl 2018-06-17 21:43:21 +1000
How gorgeous is the Numbat! Shy and defenceless against feral animals. We are so lucky to have such unique wildlife in Australia. Unfortunately due to lack of strong environmental laws they are heading for extinction. How sad. How wrong. Please do all you can to protect them.
