The Labor Party is still tying themselves in knots about Adani. They need to hear from us encouraging them to reject this polluting coal mine.

This is Labor’s Franklin River moment. This decision will go down in Australian environmental history. The ALP are so close, but we need to get them over the line.

Give them the courage and confidence to make the right decision!

Will you call one – or many! – of these key people in Labor's Cabinet and encourage them to make a clear public statement opposing this dangerous mine?

Calling tips

  • When you call, you might speak to a staffer. Ask them to leave a message for the Shadow Minister. If you can't get through, keep trying!
  • Be polite and encouraging – we want them to make a good decision!
  • Talk about why you care about this
  • Be specific – ask them to make a clear public statement opposing Adani's mine

I left a message for Bill Shorten saying that this was a defining moment in our history and that this stance assures him a place in our history and to make sure he is batting for the Australian people not big business and corporate greed. Was told it would get passed on – hope he hears it and understands(!)

Spoke to Plibersek staffer who was receptive and took details. Shorten staffer said the Adani decision was being reconsidered by Qld labor cabinet, not Federal? He took my objection to pass on to Shorten in any case.

Left a message with Tanya Plibersek’s staffer stressing the need to oppose. I suspect they have been inundated with calls and she was very polite, recalling suggesting that if environmental evidence didn’t stack up they would oppose. I reinforced my request that my desperate wish they oppose be noted. She said it sure would!

Rang most of them, no one picking up! Will email a few.

Called Shorten’s office. Spoke to a staffer called Olivia & told her how rapt I am that Labor are reconsidering their support for the Adani mine. Said how positive it would be to have an alternative government with a real, visible point of difference on environmental issues from the coalition.
Simone 2018-01-31 15:10:42 +1100

Bill Shorten’s office. It took a long time for anyone to answer the phone. They said the message that I want to stop the Adani mine would be passed on to Bill Shorten at the end of the day.

Called Tanya Plibersek’s office. The staffer said they’d had lots of calls which they were noting down, to pass on the strong community demand to prevent the disastrous Adani Mine going ahead.
I suggested that it shouldn’t be difficult to come to a quick decision if reviewing their stance on the proposal. Too much evidence shows that the mine is a ludicrous and incredibly damaging proposition.

Tanya’s office and her staffer said she’d pass the message on, I called Bill’s office and his staffer said the same thing, when I tried calling the rest on the list the phone rang out ,no one picked up! Interesting

A spokesperson in Minister Tanya Plibersek’s ’office heard me out. She said my comments would be passed on to the Deputy Minister for the Environment, who has stated that he does not consider the project to be a good idea. Also that Bill Shorten has made a speech in which he said that it could only go ahead if it was shown to be viable. She thanked me, emphasising that my opinion, along with that of other voters, is valuable. I shall wait like many others with bated breath to see just how effective our Labor Leader is! There is definitely a conflict of interest in this project, between jobs, which Queensland badly needs, and the future in which we are supposed to protect the environment and health and safety of future generations. May the best cause win!!!

Michael Powell. Tanyas office very co operative and on board . I strongly suggested there is no valid reason for this debacle to proceed.

Denise 2018-01-31 15:01:50 +1100
Plibersek’s person was polite and took notes and said she’d pass my message on. Bowen’s phone rang out. Burke’s phone rang out. Albo’s phone rang out. Dreyfus’ person repeated the line about ‘if it stacks up’ (i questioned how something so damaging could in any way ‘stack up’, and mentioned i lived in Batman). Butler’s phone rang out. i’ll keep trying…
Sian 2018-01-31 15:00:44 +1100
Talked to staffer. He acknowledged my request that federal labor rule out the mine on climate grounds. He basically acknowledged that Labor had not ruled the mine out yet (only helped to bring the NAIF loan down) I said that this was not enough and that extracting coal was morally wrong and a vote decider for me.
Daniel 2018-01-31 14:58:48 +1100
I called Bill Shorten’s Office and spoke to a staffer who said he’d be happy to pass on y message asking Bill to consider the environment and commercial interests, both of which are not served by the Adani mine going on. I asked that he move Labor to blockthis proposal.
