It’s time to make our democracy fair for everyone.

Sign the open letter calling on our elected representatives to work together to get big money out of our political system and put people and planet back in.

Open letter

To our elected representatives,

We call on you to work together to get big money out of our political system and put people back in.

This means:

  • Banning large donations to political parties and candidates.
  • Increasing the transparency of political donations, including real time reporting of donations.
  • Limiting expenditure at election times so corporations can’t use their oversized  wallets to drown out our voices.
  • Creating an independent watchdog to investigate and stamp out corruption.
  • Stronger lobbying regulation and greater transparency so we know who’s meeting with our elected representatives and why.

I don’t know of 1 politician that I would trust, ALL political parties should disclose EVERYTHING as we the people are paying their HUGE wages just for them to line their own pockets and hang the ordinary Australian.

We must cease to be beholden to large political donors. It’s unfair and compromises our politicians. Election spending should be transparent and paid for by the Government – in fact, the face to face campaigning done on the ground should be the only form action.

Andrew Yang in America has the right idea. Give every citizen $100 per year to spend on the candidates of their choice. Together we could spend $1.4 billion. Not even Clive Palmer could spend that.

I would also go as far as to say ban all political donations and the campaign be funded by taxpayer, similar to the system in Germany.

Secret lobbying and donations by large companies that don’t necessarily have Australia’s interests at the forefront, but rather their own profits, has become a total disgrace to our so-called democracy

Like religion and politics not being a healthy mix, neither is corporate interests and democracy.
