Make a comment & help clean up Australia's vehicle pollution

Your comment will be included in an ACF community submission to the Australian goverment.

Transport is Australia's second biggest source of climate pollution, and most of it’s coming from the exhausts of our cars, utes and trucks.

But we can put our vehicle emissions in reverse! Strong fuel efficiency standards now would make cleaner vehicles more available and affordable to more people in Australia and hit the accelerator on taking CO2 off our roads.

Right now the Australian government is asking us in the community for our input on these standards. It's critical that we lend our voices now to make the standards strong enough to clean up our dangerous vehicle pollution.

Make a comment now for strong fuel efficiency standards to be included in an ACF community submission to the Australian government before the Friday 31 May deadline.

What to include in your comment

In your submission, you can mention that you want the standards to:

  1. Take effect as soon as possible: Have the standards come into effect as soon as possible, which will be mid-2024, so that we reduce transport emissions from light vehicles now.
  2. Be tough on pollution: Require all new cars sold in Australia to have zero emissions from 2035, which is in line with limiting global heating to a 1.5-degree rise.
  3. Insure affordability: Ensure that by 2035 all new cars sold in Australia have zero emissions, creating a second-hand market for low-emissions vehicles sooner.
  4. Be mandatory and rigorous: Legislate the standards, make them mandatory for all manufacturers, and don’t allow accounting tricks like super credits, offsets etc. that stop the genuine reduction of CO2 emissions.

We have need for more rules on anything especially emissions. If anything we need less stringent rules.

Please clean up our road pollution and fast. It’s shocking that we have not done this already with global warming rising rapidly and so many warnings out there. We need to stop global warming and this is one small step towards that.

It’s time for Australia to catch up with the rest of the world. Electric vehicles will cut down on pollution. We need strong fuel efficiency standards.. Please act as soon possible. We can’t waste any more time.

Please deliver strong fuel efficiency standards to Australian residential & industry alike as soon as possible as we MUST reduce vehicular pollution immediately. Let’s make a genuine reduction in CO2 emissions across Australia this year our climate & future cannot wait! Australia at 3% efficiency is the world’s worst ! We MUST do better!

I’m sorry, but I do not go along with this climate change ramble. Australia emits 1.3% emissions compared to the rest of the developed countries and everyone hits the panic button. I’m sorry but I just see this as a push to get people into electric vehicles that I believe are a more worst problem for the planet. Older Fuel run cars can’t be controlled and turned off but smart cars run on electricity can be controlled by the powers that be. Sorry but I don’t believe this climate change is as bad as it’s all being made out to be!

Surely, as responsible global citizens, we must have strong fuel efficiency standards. The last Government, of course, cared little for such things, but surely it comes down to responsible national housekeeping.

30 years ago we were first world leaders in research and development of solar powered cars. Today we are third world polluters with no conscience.
We need strong laws to regulate and reduce vehicle emissions. Those standards must come into effect as soon as possible, why mid-2024, so that we reduce transport emissions from light vehicles now!

Waking up to the sound of heavy trucks and vehicles is annoying enough…having to wipe down surfaces to eliminate dust from my house. This dust is from trucks and tyres.

Enough is enough.

Make electric vehicles affordable to everyone and at the same time keep electricity prices down. Make solar panels affordable to all. Need to do this sooner than 2035!!!

Let’s all stand together in replacing fossil fuel for non dangerous generators and keep the earth a liveble one for the next generation

Please deliver strong emission standards for vehicles. It’s clear the countries that have led the way have a higher uptake if EV’s. we should do likewise. The flow on effects eg less pollution, fewer deaths and illnesses from diesel and other road pollutants make the change even more favourable. The electorate voted you in to show leadership in environmental matters. Please use your powers to help make our cars and roads greener.

Australia should not be seen to be dragging the chain with vehicle emissions limits. We all want a sustainable, heathy future for our coming generations.

Strong fuel efficiency regulations are essential to preventing major climate meltdown. Research from the University of Melbourne shows that Australian car pollution may cause ten times more premature deaths than road accidents. All new vehicles sold in 2024 must meet the stringent transport emissions requirements, with no loop holes for carbon offset. From 2035, all new cars sold must have zero emissions. These regulations must also apply to all new vehicles: two wheels, four wheels, trucks, busses, long haul…

It is critical that strong fuel efficiency standards are introduced to Australia – it is amazing that this has not happened before. The previous governments have acted reprehensibly in not introducing these before.

It is clear that we are fast running out of time to reign in human activities that are contributing to the devastating course of climate pollution. Overseas examples have shown that you can successfully introduce vehicle pollution standards which protect the environment whilst retaining company profits and providing a new electric vehicle market for all Australians. With such examples there is no need to delay the introduction of strong fuel efficiency standards and action can and should be taken now.

I can not believe Australia a wealthy country has been such a laggard in setting effective, strong vehicle emission standards. There is no excuse. Act now to protect Earth.
