The elusive Greater Bilby is one of Australia’s most threatened animals. It’s also one of our most-loved, despite the fact many of us have never seen one.
But land clearing for profit threatens their survival. To survive, greater bilbies need safe habitat to call home.
By speaking up and signing the open letter to get big money out of politics, you will be sending a strong message to our elected representatives that it’s time we create a healthy, thriving democracy that’s good for people and planet.
Every signature gets us closer to a democracy that:
Caps political donations by corporations to curb unfair influence.
Reports donations as they happen so we are all informed.
Includes an independent body to investigate and stamp out corruption.
When big money and politics mix, nature loses out.
Sign the open letter: call on our elected representatives to get big money out of our political system, and put people and planet back in.

Open letter
To our elected representatives,
We call on you to work together to get big money out of our political system and put people back in.
This means:
Banning large donations to political parties and candidates.
Increasing the transparency of political donations, including real time reporting of donations.
Limiting expenditure at election times so corporations can’t use their oversized wallets to drown out our voices.
Creating an independent watchdog to investigate and stamp out corruption.
Stronger lobbying regulation and greater transparency so we know who’s meeting with our elected representatives and why.

It is truly disheartening that a vast tract of country, which is a habitat for the threatened Bilby, can be destroyed to allow for financial gain. The perpetrators of this destruction have no soul.

Governments & Councils should NEVER be allowed to be funded by big companies. They will always sway towards where their money comes from when making decisions. Its not rocket science.

It’s 2021 and the writing is on the wall for political parties to stop taking money that influences policy. The environment is very important to the survival of our animals and plants and your political parties policies do not reflect you have any concern for the environment. Support the survival of the Bilbao in WA by refusing the destruction of its habitat.

As a long time koala supporter, I’m interested in Koala Conservation. The Koala species are already endangered and need to be protected. A big threat to the koala species that I see are wild dogs. Study findings produced by The Moreton Bay Rail Link koala monitoring and management program, which placed tracking devices on 400 koalas in the area over two years. Results of the monitoring found that of the 400 koalas tracked, 130 were found dead mostly due to wild dog attacks. I would like to see all those wild dogs dealt with, I would like to see some intervention on the protection of habitats.
Another threat that I see are destruction of Koala habitat due to human activity, large number of koalas killed by high speeding vehicles and also attacks by domestic dogs. My suggestion is that we ban owners keeping fierce dogs near the koala habitat. Another threat that I see is when certain koala habitats are destroyed, they have to move somewhere else and they could easily get chlamydia which affects the fertility problems of koala. A cure of this disease need to be find in order to protect koala population in Australia.
In recent times, it has become increasingly clear that existing legislation is incapable of providing the level of protection needed to save the Koala and I am shocked to hear that the federal government have decided to allow the States to administer koala legislation, even though the Senate Report showed they were completely incapable of protecting the koala and its habitat.
If you look at the Bald Eagle act in USA, it has prevented the Bald Eagle from extinction. It is easy to draw parallels between the Bald Eagle and the Koala; they are both iconic to each country.
The document is written now and I am hoping that you will consider supporting the legislation because it is time that simple and common sense regulations were put in place to protect koala habitat. I extremely strongly support the Australian Koala Foundation and believe you should participate. We need to address all these issues. Otherwise the Koala species will become extinct. I look forward to your comments.

Australia has the ghastly distinction of being the continent with the highest level of mammal extinction – all done since colonisation. 75% of our tropical forests are gone. We must protect, care for and cherish what remains of native vegetation and all the precious creatures which live there. And if we have any sense at all we must engage our First Nations peoples to show us the way.

The Federal Government, State Governments and Corporations are not listening to the anguished cry of the very damaged Australian environment. Philosophies and Laws must change. It is urgent. Place our precious flora, fauna and their ecology at the forefront of human centric plans that must destroy what’s left of natural Australia. SAVETHEGREATERBILBY.

Politics and politicians need to be totally removed from these important decisions concerning the natural ecology of areas, including the plants, animals and archaeological significance. Whether they are Left or Right or in-between, they are still part of the same Political bird and are often swayed by mining and money. Such important decisions regarding the future of sensitive areas should be decided by a separate body that considers all aspects and isn’t afraid to say No.
I’m so tired of this revolving door of corruption where they only get a slap on the wrist, and as soon as one corrupt official or company is removed, another replaces them. How about some real gaol time/enormous fines and truth in sentencing for corrupt MP’s and company/departmental officials with all to be held truly accountable for their corrupt decisions.
