ANZ is a major sponsor of the Australian Open: a cultural highlight that promotes fitness, community, and the importance of getting outside. ANZ is also a funding new and expansionary coal, oil or gas projects, which are turbocharging the climate crisis and putting our sports at risk.
This is not a game. ANZ has a climate problem.
Due to increasing heatwaves, the Open and other matches are at risk of cancellation, our champions and fans at risk of heatstroke.
They need to hear from you that you want to see ANZ shift the billions of dollars they are responsible for out of burning and digging fossil fuels and into solutions that will protect us from droughts, floods and heatwaves.

To ANZ:
"As concerned citizens, customers, shareholders, and employees, we call on ANZ to stop financing the digging and burning of fossil fuels. The first steps are:
- divesting from thermal coal by 2030 or earlier;
- divesting from oil & gas in line with the Paris climate agreement;
- not investing in new or expansion coal, gas & oil projects.
Burning fossil fuels is the biggest driver of climate damage. We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action."

It has been hard enough for Australians to face the fact that ANZ and three other big banks so often “play dirty”. By not divesting from thermal coal and by STILL planning to invest in oil and gas at “twice the rate of any other big Australian bank”, ANZ proves to all Australians that their company’s chosen investments are not JUST dirty, but are the dirtiest. This is surely the fact that will now send their current renewable business and customer supporters into ANZ branches to remove their money in order to secure the future of themselves and their loved ones. There is certainly NO future for ANZ in these dirty thermal investments. ANZ will lose money on those investment portfolios and if any member of the Board does not know this by now then he/she should immediately RESIGN.
Has ANZ buried it’s head in the sand
Divesting all ANZ Accounts
ANZ – you are only fooling the gullible…
ANZ Stop funding in any coal, gas or oil projects, they are destroying the earth
A BIG announcement from ANZ bank on climate policy, but a failure to divest from BIG coal financing. ANZ has a Climate Problem!
What good is a “roaring” economy if our children do not have clean water to drink or clean air to breathe?
I temporarily have multiple investment loans with the ANZ , BUT Ethically I will be refusing to continue to do business with the ANZ if they continue to be THE Bank that remains uncaring and out of touch with what our future needs are…
Glad to help apply pressure that will help to preserve the planet
I would like to think that the bank I trust with my money would have values in line with caring with the planet we all must look after.
Here is an opportunity now for ANZ bank to get into the forefront of climate change, But do you have the courage?
As an ANZ shareholder and customer I’m considering changes if action is not taken to remedy this situation.
absolute classic bank short-sided madness to bank roll fossil fuel
You should be ashamed of yourselves, still backing fossil fuel companies when the whole world knows that these exacerbate climate change and that there is just as much money to be made from investing in renewable energy which is environmentally friendly
I am deeply disappointed in ANZ’s disingenuous proclamation that it will no longer fund new coal mines only when Australia’s coal export markets have achieved net-zero emissions.
Science tells us (Hansen et al (2008) “Target Atmospheric CO2: Where Should Humanity Aim?”,
https://benthamopen.com/contents/pdf/TOASCJ/TOASCJ-2-217.pdf) that the world should stop all burning of fossil fuels before the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere rises to 350 parts per million.
Trouble is, this safe operating limit was breached in 1989 – decades before low-cost renewable technologies that could replace all coal and gas for power generation were developed – and the situation is only getting worse. This means the world, including Australia and all the nations that buy coal and
LNG from Australia, need to totally cease using coal and
LNG as rapidly as possible.
The Good News is, renewables are now lower cost than new coal (let alone gas), even when you include the cost of the batteries that renewable intermittency requires (ref

Opposition to this dire necessity is certainly not in the best interests of
ANZ shareholders, customers and board members, and especially of the children of these shareholders, customers and board members.
Instead, what
ANZ should be doing is financing just transitions – in particular, installation of renewable power-generating equipment – wind turbines, and solar farms.
For the sake of your own children, who will have to care for you when you are old and helpless and endure whatever climate and environment you bequeath them, please bring forward this change of direction.
Yours faithfully,
