ANZ is a major sponsor of the Australian Open: a cultural highlight that promotes fitness, community, and the importance of getting outside. ANZ is also a funding new and expansionary coal, oil or gas projects, which are turbocharging the climate crisis and putting our sports at risk.
This is not a game. ANZ has a climate problem.
Due to increasing heatwaves, the Open and other matches are at risk of cancellation, our champions and fans at risk of heatstroke.
They need to hear from you that you want to see ANZ shift the billions of dollars they are responsible for out of burning and digging fossil fuels and into solutions that will protect us from droughts, floods and heatwaves.

"As concerned citizens, customers, shareholders, and employees, we call on ANZ to stop financing the digging and burning of fossil fuels. The first steps are:
- divesting from thermal coal by 2030 or earlier;
- divesting from oil & gas in line with the Paris climate agreement;
- not investing in new or expansion coal, gas & oil projects.
Burning fossil fuels is the biggest driver of climate damage. We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action."

As a shareholder in ANZ I was shocked to hear that ANZ is not divesting from fossil fuels! Please think about future generations and the state of the planet before profit.

ANZ’s recent announcement of a 40% drop in profits will be far worse next time if it refuses to follow the good example set by the other major banks and wisely aborts coal investments. I’m an unfortunate ANZ shareholder.

Investing and supporting the fossil fuel industry is a greedy, short sighted and irresponsible approach. Jobs and growth can be provided by Investing in sustainable industries.
It has been hard enough for Australians to face the fact that ANZ and three other big banks so often “play dirty”. By not divesting from thermal coal and by STILL planning to invest in oil and gas at “twice the rate of any other big Australian bank”, ANZ proves to all Australians that their company’s chosen investments are not JUST dirty, but are the dirtiest. This is surely the fact that will now send their current renewable business and customer supporters into ANZ branches to remove their money in order to secure the future of themselves and their loved ones. There is certainly NO future for ANZ in these dirty thermal investments. ANZ will lose money on those investment portfolios and if any member of the Board does not know this by now then he/she should immediately RESIGN.
