Climate damage is here now yet billionaire polluters are lining up to dig and burn more coal. Coal corporation Adani want to dig one of the world’s biggest coal mines in Queensland.

But people don't want this mine. If the mine goes ahead it would create billions of tonnes of pollution, wreck our climate and spell the end for our Great Barrier Reef.

The Australian Conservation Foundation community challenged the federal government's approval of the mine in court. But our laws can’t stop the government from approving Australia’s biggest coal mine, even as the reef dies before our eyes.

Governments have a responsibility to create a future where our reef, communities and wildlife all thrive.

Federal Environment Minister, Melissa Price has the power to stop this mine. And our future depends on it. It's critical she hears from everyone who cares that we want our beautiful reef, not more polluting coal.

Sign the petition to tell the Federal Minister for Environment, Melissa Price to:

Reject Adani’s Carmichael coal mine and create strong new laws to protect our Great Barrier Reef.

The Great Barrier Reef is far more important than the mining of coal which is outdated and an absolute menace to climate change.

We Need to protect our reef as a world heritage. I want to take my children to the reef in the future and want them to see it in its full beauty. We need to stop thinking about current profits and start thinking about future generations wealth. And that wealth does not consist of money, but environmental health and availability. I am happy that this petition might help us save part of the reef.

Vicki Matson-Green,
Leave our Reef alone Frydenburg & Adani!!! This is one of the world’s greatest natural assets and must be preserved forever. I heard the Treasurer taking earlier this week about not passing on the deficit to our children but it is ok to pass on the devastation caused by mining. Mining has already done too much damage to Australia, the kind that cannot be remedied and will forever be a thorn in the side of our future generations. The budget can be fixed – highly sensitive environmental destruction cannot! Leave our natural assets alone!!

Australia’s environmental laws must be strong enough to protect the Great Barrier Reef and the environment more broadly. The approval of the Adani Coal Mine is appalling on a global scale and it seems both government and legal systems refuse to listen to the public. We as a country are responsible to protect and nurture the environment. You as a government and a legal system should not be able to make these decisions on our behalf. I believe this is a significant future election issue also, which the current government should consider if they wish to gain support with their voters.

The reef – NOT COAL!!! Enough has been destroyed, this madness must cease immediately, before there is NOTHING left!!! I SAY NO TO ADANI and YES TO OUR REEF!!

Don’t let our reef end up dead and polluted for near term economic gain. As a country we have the opportunity to be the cleanest and most pristine natural environments and tourist attractions for the long term. This can’t happen if we don’t move quickly as we’ll end up polluted and lacking biodiversity and dirty like much of Asia’s other once beutiful and now dirty and too rapidly developed environments.

the failure of the federal govt to protect and maintain the health of the Great Barrier Reef or do anything substantial to address climate change is inexcusable and a crime against humanity that will inevitably result in a far worse outcome for us all. I have no confidence Minister Frydenberg can distinguish between financial supporters and his responsibilities to lead and make decisions for the good of all – Stop the Adani Mine or take donations from mining companies? Such a tough choice for Qld Govt and Minister Frydenberg. Bad luck reef!

Legislate new laws now to protect our (the world’s) environment and not the cowardly, lying, twisting and spinning corporations/politicians for $$$ + profit…

I am pleading with you Josh Frydenberg to see reason for the sake of the Great Barrier Reef, for future generations who have the right to see this magnificent natural ecosystem in good health, for the sake of sustaining the miriad marine life that rely on the Great Barrier Reef to stop Adani’s giant Carmichael coal mine. It is imperitive that Australia move away from fossil fuels and invest in clean renewable energy sources. Our survival on Earth now and into the future as a species depends on us having the courage to make changes now to transition away from dirty fossil fuels such as coal.
