Report back your call to Woolies

Make a quick phone call to Woolies head office today and ask them why they still haven’t heeded the call of thousands of Australians and cut ties with the Business Council of Australia.

Thanks to a tip-off, we’ve heard it only takes ten calls a day to raise the alarm bells within Woolies headquarters. If we all take three minutes to make a call we can metaphorically smash their alarm bells and show Woolies this is an issue that will not go away.

Call.

Calling tips

  • When you call, you will be prompted to direct your call by pressing numbers on your phone. To navigate these prompts, press 3 in the first menu and press 3 in the second menu.
  • You will be put on hold, but it shouldn't take longer than two minutes before you are put through to a Woolies customer service representative
  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Coles and Woolies, not its employees.
  • Ask for Coles and Woolies to cut ties with the BCA. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal and the lobbies that prop up the dirty industry.
  • Share your support for Woolies’ work on being the first major Australian retailer to install commercial solar across its rooftops and energy efficient lighting and fridges inside its stores. Remind them that being a member of the BCA is at odds with building a better world.
  • Ask Woolies staff what they think, see if you share common views.
  • These calls don’t have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick!

The gentleman told me Woolies continues to associate, especially because of BCA’s indigenous and regional employment programmes. I reminded him that those communities bear the brunt of inaction. I also told him in my opinion this ancient land is telling us it cannot sustain a profligate European lifestyle. I said it’s not long before we are climate refugees. He was very appreciative and sounded worried. I asked him to relay to BCA his customers’ high concerns.

They were very polite and responsive to my concerns about Woolies being a member of the BCA. They read the offical Woolworths response to me but when I challenged it again, the person on the other line said she understand and acknowledged that this is an important matter. She said that it’s great that people are calling because the business management team does take note of the phone calls about this issue.

They were polite and honestly empathised a lot with our cause. They advised that my feedback would be passed on, but that I shouldn’t expect a response back.

The operator had no official response but said she would pass on my message. She also said that this was the second call that she’s personally received on this topic in the last two days.

richard The person I called obviously was no stranger to these calls and didn’t offer to read the standard reply. It was brief; she asked me which was my local store (carnegie) and she’d said she’d pass on my concern
Richard 2019-12-16 14:30:12 +1100
They are sending out an prewritten email reply & said will relay my concerns to appropriate people

Got thru to the “customer experience centre” very quickly. Mine was the 2nd call today at 9.30am. Very polite discussion. Got the std response read to me about how Woolworths works with range of industry groups on many issues including climate. Explained that BCA had stymied getting any effective climate policies from govt & therefore Woolies should leave the BCA. Was asked if I wanted to leave my contact details & I happily did so.

I didn’t push the nice person (Jasmine) on the end of the phone but thanked her for being there and listening. I also explained that I am in a bushfire area which is being impacted and companies associated with the Business Council of Australia are being seen as not accepting the science of climate change. I couldn’t say any more as I got quite teary. I wished her and her family the very best for the holiday season. I wish I could have said more but just couldn’t.

Good a lady answered and said that she has had many calls now with people requesting woolies to cut ties with business council of australia.
John 2019-12-15 11:52:16 +1100
It went well, when I asked if he needs my number he said that’s not necessary, the had such a lot of numbers asking to cut ties with BCA, so it’s a priority what customers want and it will go to management
Monika 2019-12-14 15:42:41 +1100
She listened politely and logged my complaint. Said it would be passed on to a business team. Thankfully, there was no attempt to give me their prepared company response.
Robert 2019-12-14 14:51:48 +1100
I got a ‘virtual assistant’ & that means that at least what I said was recorded. I reminded them that there was no need for them to be part of the BCA
since it’s a well known fact that the BCA supports coal mining, land & sea fracking that damages the planet’s future & the future of Woolworth’s itself unless we all come together & demand our government get cracking on Climate Change. Time is short.
Stefanie 2019-12-14 14:43:20 +1100
They said they are getting quite a few calls about this. She said they have a standard response which she read out to me. Talked about the business council helping with employment issues, regional growth etc and that Woolies is tackling climate change by using more renewal energy. I said I’d like it recorded as a customer that u would like them to cut ties and that in doing so they might get BCA to change their policies.
Miranda 2019-12-14 13:56:31 +1100
Offered me their standard response which i declined
Elizabeth 2019-12-14 13:18:10 +1100
Took note of my concerns. Told that WW will continue to work with the BCA on CC and Aboriginal issues.
I indicated that WW needs to work independently of the BCA. If it does not, I will be shopping elsewhere.
James 2019-12-14 13:07:21 +1100
They tried to give me a prepared answer that I rejected as what I expected was a brave action like leaving the A B Council. All very polite, but I was firm on n my request..
Dolores 2019-12-14 12:45:27 +1100
I was read what was obviously a script about how the BCA is doing some good work, and what Woolies is doing for sustainability.
I calmly replied that I will still boycott my local store if Woolies does not cut ties with the BCA.
The call taker took my name, and the name of my local store and said she would pass it on.
Sally 2019-12-14 12:32:38 +1100
The woman I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and read a pre-written statement outlining some of the steps woolies has taken already and then took a bit of time to chat with me off script and said that the team at woolies were very aware of how critical climate concerns are. They said they will continue to work with BCA but acknowledge they disagree with some of their positions. They recorded which my local woolies was and said they are passing on all feedback they receive to management.
Nicholas 2019-12-14 12:28:16 +1100
They were very polite, they were prepared to deal with me. They said they know Woolworth values and beliefs about Climate Change clash with those of BCA, but that they must continue to work with BCA to open up employment opportunities for their employees. I told them their stance is ILLOGICAL. They said they cannot change it at this time. It was very polite and professional. Regards James Butler

They said they were working in a range of areas to reduce emissions but worked with the BCA to improve employment opportunities to indigenous people etc etc. I stressed the need for them to cut ties with BCA considering their stance on coal mining etc. Woolies rep said they would note my feedback and pass it on !
