Report back your call to Woolies

Make a quick phone call to Woolies head office today and ask them why they still haven’t heeded the call of thousands of Australians and cut ties with the Business Council of Australia.

Thanks to a tip-off, we’ve heard it only takes ten calls a day to raise the alarm bells within Woolies headquarters. If we all take three minutes to make a call we can metaphorically smash their alarm bells and show Woolies this is an issue that will not go away.

Call.
Ask Woolies to cut ties with the BCA.

Calling tips

  • When you call, you will be prompted to direct your call by pressing numbers on your phone. To navigate these prompts, press 3 in the first menu and press 3 in the second menu.
  • You will be put on hold, but it shouldn't take longer than two minutes before you are put through to a Woolies customer service representative
  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Coles and Woolies, not its employees.
  • Ask for Coles and Woolies to cut ties with the BCA. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal and the lobbies that prop up the dirty industry.
  • Share your support for Woolies’ work on being the first major Australian retailer to install commercial solar across its rooftops and energy efficient lighting and fridges inside its stores. Remind them that being a member of the BCA is at odds with building a better world.
  • Ask Woolies staff what they think, see if you share common views.
  • These calls don’t have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick!

Letting them know that I find it impossible to continue to shop at Woolies while they continue to be a member of the BCA. Contrary to the will of the Australian people for urgent effective action on climate change, the BCA actively puts road blocks in the way of such action. Team member Tory said she would pass on the feedback to to their relevant department. I asked who that was. She said they Internal Business Team’. I asked if I could speak to them. She said, No; but that I was not alone and a lot of people are concerned, like me.

They didn’t answer after 5 mins.

Chap called David said he hadn’t realized Woollies were members of BCA until 2 calls ago! Said it’s pretty poor that they were and agreed severing ties with the coal lobby is the way forward. Shame he’s not the CEO!

There seemed to be a long hold before being answered. The staff member sounded weary.
I just asked them to send the message on that I would no longer be buying at Woolies until I hear they have cut the ties with BCA.
The staff member said she was sorry about that.

Tried to ring to ask you to cut ties with the BCA but none of the 6 options were suitable to choose from

Anyway, please cut ties with the BCA

Please also only buy Australia produce and I am dismayed that Pura Milk and Big M etc are now owned by a foreign Chinese company?

Please also start demanding Bush Tucker plants and spray feee food to help our climate

I spoke to Doug and congratulated him on what Woolies was doing so far in regards to the environment but asked if I could leave some feedback as a concerned citizen about its relationship with BCA – he said that he would note my feedback and pass it on to higher authority!
Nicky 2019-12-13 14:12:56 +1100
The customer service rep read out their prepared statement about working withe BCA on a range of issues they maintain they take climate change seriously and listed some of their achievements… I said we are watching and are tired of the lack of serious national action and leadership
Gary 2019-12-13 14:12:41 +1100
I was not able to get through to a person in the time I had available!
Glenys 2019-12-13 13:13:17 +1100
There were no options for me to talk to anyone☹️
Steven 2019-12-13 09:48:30 +1100
TOOK DETAILS OF CONCERNS AND STATED THEY WOULD PASS THEM ON TO MANAGEMENT.
John 2019-12-12 17:07:34 +1100
It was very long to get through with the number given, i was transferred through to Sydney to a lady named Angie. She was on script and ran through what woolies were doing in relation to emissions reduction and indicated their membership of the BCA was necessary as they were also lobbying the BCA for greater emission reductions. Angie indicated they would be speaking about their membership with BCA at the AGM. She was very polite but had the company script.

The telephoning was very gracious and said that she would convey my message to the relevant people. She appeared to be typing my message which she interpreted as my asking Woolworths to have nothing to do worth the Business Council of Australia as they are denying that climate change is destroying the biosphere.
Angela 2019-12-12 15:05:52 +1100
I asked woolies to cut ties with BCA while they support fossil fuel industries.

I asked them to stop their promotional toy war with Coles – aimed at children and creating an enormous landfill issue for those same children’s future.

I asked woolies to stop needlessly wrapping fresh produce and meats in endless PLASTIC!

I await the day that huge profiteering stores and corporations are forced legally, to do the right bloody ethical thing by the earth and all it’s inhabitants. Otherwise, they should pay for the environmental consequences!!!

My concerns as a Woolies Rewards customer who is considering taking my business elsewhere were sympathetically listened to, and a statement which amongst other things emphasised the company’s energy efficiency measures was read out to me. I showed my support for that but emphasised my view that Woolies should cut it’s ties with the BCA, and that because of that I am seriously considering taking my custom to a more independent retail outlet. I asked for my concerns to be passed on to management, and I was told that they will be.
Linda 2019-12-11 16:55:12 +1100
My concerns were noted, and a prepared company statement regarding BCA was read out to me.
I was given a Ticket # , so know that this call will be given to the relevant department.
Melanie 2019-12-11 15:50:35 +1100
They may have done this deliberately, but there doesn’t seem to be a phone option that suits.
Dale 2019-12-11 12:52:13 +1100
There was no automatic selection, other than the prerecorded for emergencies, feedback listed to, but only offered to read back a prepared policy.
Rubin 2019-12-11 12:45:56 +1100
Call was polite and supportive, however employee read from prepared text to respond to enguiry. Asked if it was possible to pass on my comments regarding woolies not being able to have credibility as supporters of climate action whilesr remaining part of BCA. Said this was possible and took note of my comments. Further conversation revealed employee was a supporter of climate action
Rob 2019-12-11 12:19:09 +1100
I spoke to an employee who listened then transferred me to the switchboard who listened but wanted a name and transferred me to customer service who transferred me to the switchboard who transferred me to customer service again. When I got to a chap with whom I’d previously spoken he revealed that he could help me lodge a complaint and so I made it about Woolies being in the BCA and also about being shunted back and forth.

i just spoke to woolies – although they don’t agree with all BCA policies, they will remain with them because BCA helps them with their programme to support employment of indigenous staff. sounds like telephone staff have a blurb to refer to when they get a call from ACF supporters.
Kathy 2019-12-11 10:03:52 +1100
While being a member of BCA Woolies don’t always agree with BCA policy on climate change.Woolies take climate change seriously and have worked to reduce their CO2 emissions by 15% on 2015 levels and continue to work to reduce them.
Kevin 2019-12-11 09:36:59 +1100
Its going really well.
Woolies and i like that idea because i am employee and make this happen so i did talk to them about it and they like it.

I was also read the Woolworths public statement. I explained that while Woolworths have made climate conscious improvements, remaining associated with the BCA was an extremely negative stance, and damaged their credibility with regard to being environmentally proactive.

Call went well. I outlined my reasons why Woolies should ditch the BCA and they created a ‘case’ and noted my concerns.
Jack 2019-12-10 17:33:03 +1100
I was read a statement released by Woolworths executive, after which I said it was not exceptable and that Woolworths should cut ties with BCA.
Jennifer 2019-12-10 17:22:14 +1100
Good. Woolies said nothing.
