Climate damage is here now yet billionaire polluters are lining up to dig and burn more coal. Coal corporation Adani want to dig one of the world’s biggest coal mines in Queensland.

But people don't want this mine. If the mine goes ahead it would create billions of tonnes of pollution, wreck our climate and spell the end for our Great Barrier Reef.

The Australian Conservation Foundation community challenged the federal government's approval of the mine in court. But our laws can’t stop the government from approving Australia’s biggest coal mine, even as the reef dies before our eyes.

Governments have a responsibility to create a future where our reef, communities and wildlife all thrive.

Federal Environment Minister, Melissa Price has the power to stop this mine. And our future depends on it. It's critical she hears from everyone who cares that we want our beautiful reef, not more polluting coal.

Sign the petition to tell the Federal Minister for Environment, Melissa Price to:

Reject Adani’s Carmichael coal mine and create strong new laws to protect our Great Barrier Reef.

Mr Frydenberg, please don’t let this company ,Adani, proceed with this coal mine. Our reef is too precious and the company has the worst track record of despoiling entire environments and refusing to clean them up. We must stop pollution of the Reef. This is a world heritage area and one of the great natural wonders of the earth. It is just not worth letting it go ahead.

We already have enough coal. We don’t need another mine at the cost of our reef – nothing stacks up – not even the short term economics. Stop this please.

Minister Frydenberg,

It would be a dangerously stupid decision to go ahead with the Adani mine for both environmental and economic reasons. The 2016 global coral bleaching crisis was the worst in recorded human history and despite what the Courier Mail states, it had major impacts on the northern sector of the GBR. The CO2 emissions which will be generated from the coal sourced at the Carmichael mine will have detrimental impacts on the health of the remaining GBR. Choosing coral over coal is not only an environmentally sensible decision but with the current price of coal, the mine is not economically viable. The mine will likely not go ahead due to the economic viability of the operation which is saddening because if profit could be made, I don’t doubt that the decision for short term monetary gain would once again be chosen over environmental protection.

If that is so, as Dickens put it “The law is an ass”. Err long this type of incumbency myopia will be seen as a crime against humanity. There are more draconian laws to protect against that.
