Why this role matters:

The first point of contact with an organisation is crucial to whether someone moves from a potential volunteer to an active volunteer. It’s important that we have an energised and proactive welcome team responding to volunteer expressions of interest to ensure we effectively bring new members on board. Having a knowledgeable and passionate team helping our new volunteers find their place in our community ensures volunteers feel wanted and invested in. By working together, we can rapidly build our movement and reach a tipping point for action.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

  • Registering for a 2-3 hour shift at a time that suits you 
  • Making phone calls to individuals who have expressed an interest in volunteering with ACF
  • Learning about the issues the individual cares about including their values, passions and motivations
  • Identifying their strengths and what they are looking for in an ACF volunteer role
  • Matching the volunteer to an ACF role where they can thrive 
  • Being familiar with all the different ways people can volunteer at ACF 

Volunteer skills:

The volunteers should be able to demonstrate:

  • Clear, confident and empathic communication skills with the ability to have insightful conversations  
  • Excellent telephone manner with the ability to convey verbal information in a clear, engaging, and persuasive way.
  • Active listening   
  • Ability to identify strengths and limitations in others 
  • Approachable and friendly nature
  • Self-motivated and initiative to work autonomously
  • Strong passion for the environment upholding a commitment to the values and mission of ACF
  • An awareness of ACF’s key campaigns

About the role

Hours:

The volunteer will be required to select a 2-3 hour shift once a week from our rostering system. The specific time of this shift is flexible and planned in collaboration with the volunteer. 

Location:

The normal place of volunteering will be from the volunteer’s home. 

Training:

The volunteer will be provided with training, resources and support.  

Direction and Contact:

The volunteer will be asked to carry out work on the direction of and report to the National Welcome Team Leader.
