Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. Our combined voices can protect them.
We have one of the worst records on extinction in the world. 56 more Australian species have just been added to the international red list of threatened species –bringing the total to 1,830 Australian species in danger!
The nature crisis is global. Habitat destruction is threatening Tasmanian Devils and Sumatran tigers alike with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef is collapsing, so is the Amazon.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can make Australia a global leader for nature – but they have to show up.
This means attending the 15th conference to the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Montreal in December, and advocating for strong global nature goals that unite and hold governments and business accountable worldwide to protect and restore the natural world that sustains us.
Sign the petition calling on the federal government to:
Lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.
That means championing clear and measurable goals and targets, backed by domestic commitments to:
- End extinction and recover threatened species
- Restore the ecosystems we’ve already degraded
- Embed the value of nature in all government and business decision-making
- Recognise Indigenous rights and stewardship
- Protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans.

Long term survival needs clean air, water and earth.
I have travelled Australia extensively mostly from 18 years old to 50 years old and each and every time I revisited a special place it was more and more desecrated and I was saddened each time to the stage I didn’t want to witness that again and gave up travelling. I took my sons around Australia and found myself apologising and explaining how it used to be.In saying that some of my secret slots were still excellent. But we must stop destroying our amazing unique environments
We need to save any forest and green space we have to protect all our wonderful species. Stop the logging. Stop the clearing for new houses. There are other more creative housing options.

The health of our people and society is interconnected and dependant on the health of our beautiful blue planet. It need bold and ambitious goals to ensure a healthy future.

I’m saddened and confused by efforts to fund the revival of extinct species. It’s bewildering to fathom any such efforts being worthwhile in a time when logging of native forests and other environmentally destructive processes continue. It’s time for major environmental reform.
Nature is more important than financial profits!
Australia has fallen more than 20 years behind prosperous economies because we have continued to abuse our environment.
I want ambitious goals for “nature” because life and nature are synonymous. There is no separation between myself, my world, and “nature”. I want to live, and I want my world to be as vibrant and amazing as possible. The only way to move toward that goal – indeed for the majority of ecosystems and species to survive let alone thrive – is to have ambitious goals for what is being called “nature”.
