Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. Our combined voices can protect them.
We have one of the worst records on extinction in the world. 56 more Australian species have just been added to the international red list of threatened species –bringing the total to 1,830 Australian species in danger!
The nature crisis is global. Habitat destruction is threatening Tasmanian Devils and Sumatran tigers alike with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef is collapsing, so is the Amazon.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can make Australia a global leader for nature – but they have to show up.
This means attending the 15th conference to the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Montreal in December, and advocating for strong global nature goals that unite and hold governments and business accountable worldwide to protect and restore the natural world that sustains us.
Sign the petition calling on the federal government to:
Lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.
That means championing clear and measurable goals and targets, backed by domestic commitments to:
- End extinction and recover threatened species
- Restore the ecosystems we’ve already degraded
- Embed the value of nature in all government and business decision-making
- Recognise Indigenous rights and stewardship
- Protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans.
Want to understand more about how global goals for nature will help Australia's own endangered plants and animals? Read our blog from Nathaniel Pelle, ACF's Business and Biodiversity Campaign Lead, then sign the petition and invite friends and family to add their names too!

Sad and worried for my children’s futures
I want ambitious goals for nature because I want my children and all my descendants to be able to survive and live in a habitable environment and as well as enjoying the beauty of nature in a similar way to what I do.
We need to look better after mother nature.
surely we can use our intelligence to protect ohe species, instead of destroying them
I have not seen a Christmas beetle for many years and miss them so very much. They are such a fond memory from my childhood . I have been searched but have so far been unable to share the joy of the Christmas beetle with my children.
Careless and greedy human activity has brought too many species to the brink of extinction.
I want to see actual action on climate change, not just more talk. Politicians have to put their foot down and act against the capitalist interests of greedy coal companies. It’s a shame that I haven’t seen a Christmas beetle since about 2004 when I was a kid. There were about 20 dad out of the pool filter and set free. I haven’t seen once since…Act now
I call on our government to lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.
Please do something to save the planet
I have fond memories growing up and seeing so many Christmas beetles 🪲 it was magical! Would love to see them get the help they need
Please someone bring back the Christmas Beetles in Australia as I really miss them as a kid 50 years ago. And never seen any for years
Cultures that protect nature haven’t yet lost their humanity. When we protect nature, we have our priorities right.
Please prioritise biodiversity in Australia to provide an end extension of all Australian species.
