Right now, nearly 2,000 Australian animals, plants and ecosystems are at risk of extinction. And it's getting worse.

Ruthless nature-wrecking corporations and developers are bulldozing the forests and grasslands they call home. And our governments are doing little to stop them.

In North Queensland, nationally protected greater glider possums face being wiped out from their forest homes to make way for cattle farming.

And it's not a one-off. In 20 years, habitat destruction has driven glider numbers to drop by 80%!

It should be illegal to send plants and animals extinct. But our system for protecting threatened species in this country is fundamentally broken. We don't have the laws to protect the critical habitat our wildlife need to survive and our government isn’t doing anywhere near enough to support their recovery.

Sign the petition calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Environment Minister Sussan Ley to:

Create a new generation of national laws to protect nature and funding to restore ecosystems to bring our wildlife back from the brink.

Because we live on an incredible continent, and it’s our responsibility to look after it.

I am saddened at the amount of land being cleared, our precious animals need to be protected. Leave some land for them to live in peace. Is that so much to ask?

Our existing native forests must be protect. This is shocking that the government in QLD has gone clearly insane to destroy so much. This must be stopped.

Does our environment minister have more interest in economic than ecology. Long term habitat and species destruction for the sake of short term financial gain. So sad.

It is passed time that politicians of all persuasion come to terms with the damage that their policies are causing to the magnificent fauna and flora of Australia.Future generations will consider them criminally negligent. The greatest problem is that in a very few years there will be no chance for native habitat, flora and fauna to recover from there negligence and short sightedness

Australia has lost more animals to extinction than any other country in the world, and I am disgusted that the Australian government is still issuing approvals for the high rate of deforestation that is currently happening in our country. When will our politicians realise that when these animals are gone, they are gone forever? When will our politicians do the right thing to ensure that our children’s children have the opportunity to see and experience our precious wildlife in its natural habitat where koalas, greater gliders, lead-beater’s possums, etc. belong? Please have the courage to change the laws to protect the critical habitat our wildlife need to survive.

We are not holding back in our criticism of forest clearing and burning of forests in Brazil, but we don’t hold back on clearing forests in Australia. Talk about being hypocritical. The same principals for the virtually the same reasons should apply in Australia and we should be setting a=the global example by “walking our talk”. Sadly we don’t and that is a national shame and embarrassment.

Do the right thing Scott Morrison. Do not allow extinction under your watch.

This is disgraceful. In this day and age with all the knowledge that we have and the unending threats to the environment this is vandalism and hypocrisy by a totally uncaring head in the sand Government.
