Right now, nearly 2,000 Australian animals, plants and ecosystems are at risk of extinction. And it's getting worse.

Ruthless nature-wrecking corporations and developers are bulldozing the forests and grasslands they call home. And our governments are doing little to stop them.

In North Queensland, nationally protected greater glider possums face being wiped out from their forest homes to make way for cattle farming.

And it's not a one-off. In 20 years, habitat destruction has driven glider numbers to drop by 80%!

It should be illegal to send plants and animals extinct. But our system for protecting threatened species in this country is fundamentally broken. We don't have the laws to protect the critical habitat our wildlife need to survive and our government isn’t doing anywhere near enough to support their recovery.

Sign the petition calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Environment Minister Sussan Ley to:

Create a new generation of national laws to protect nature and funding to restore ecosystems to bring our wildlife back from the brink.

Because we live on an incredible continent, and it’s our responsibility to look after it.

The clearing of any old trees with hollows is an appalling lack of judgement that has impacts for hundreds of years, clearing in a known habitat for the greater glider should be judged for what it is, revolting greed.

Can they seriously be clearing habitat? Anywhere?? Putting the future of critically endangered native species at risk to feed cattle is INSANE!!

Even though I don’t live in Queensland at the moment, I feel very strongly about my home State. Landclearing kills native animals, wipes out native vegetation and changes the land to become dry with less rain. Please do not allow this proposed landclearing to go ahead; the greater glider is worth more to the world than yet another cattle station. Climate change is real and this proposed landclearing will only exacerbate this threat. Please DO NOT ALLOW THIS PROPOSAL, for the sake of the glider, the environment and Australia. Thank you

At this time in history when global warming and carbon dioxide emissions causing it are reaching dangerous, some say catastrophic points, how can you give approval for destroying bushland forest? Not only is the tiny glider at risk with your decision but also the removal of trees which lock away carbon, will now release and stop sequestration of carbon by the removed trees. You are the environment minister, please act on behalf of the environment and the future rather than the short term gain of those who wish to destroy this important habitat. We can preserve and conserve habitat by just leaving it alone. Perhaps the potential crop growers can buy up some degraded land which they then reinvigorate. Why are we not revitalising degraded land instead of creating more degraded land? Please minister Ley rescind your approval to have this sensitive land protected.

Please stop this endless habitat destruction of animals and plants at risk. Greed is destroying vital habitats,

Please have some foresight for once and stop mindless development. ‘Jobs and growth’ is becoming such a thin argument in the face of such destruction and greed.

Australia’s biodiversity is under stress and land clearing should be placed under much more scrutiny than is the current model. If it was, so many of our native animals wouldn’t be threatened or extinct let alone the effect on our climate
