"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister, Environment Minister and Treasurer:
End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:
- This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
- No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
- Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."
A responsible government would use our public money to make our communities and wildlife thrive, not fund the industries damaging our climate. The Albanese Government has already taken some steps to advance climate ambition in Australia, but to truly slash climate pollution it must immediately end public funding for fossil fuels.
In the 2022-23 financial year, government subsidies for fossil fuels cost Australians $11.1 billion.
If we stop spending public money on fossil fuels now, we can help prevent even more damaging projects in the future. Currently, Australia has 114 new coal and gas projects, like Woodside's Scarborough project, in the pipeline and if the projects were to go ahead they would almost double our current domestic emissions. And that’s not including any emissions from exporting the coal and gas overseas!
For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

I’m not too sure which bit about ‘catastrophic climate change’ is not understood BUT our leaders had better grasp the full meaning of it very soon – and Act on the advice of the myriad scientists who have said the first step is not to open any more coal and gas mines!
Coal and gas are a thing of the past. They do nothing to enhance a better environment and help the climate crisis.
We need to wean ourselves off our addiction to coal gas and other fossil fuels. We have the unfortunate situation where these mines are not only doing damage to the earth’s atmosphere and climate, but these mines are doing irreversible damage to valuable farming and grazing land throughout Australia.. This damage can never be reversed. We must do our best to stop it.
A climate emergency, and so much environmental damage to rectify ! – and we are financially supporting coal and gas ! I am appalled and incensed that our taxes are being used to prop up these companies, when these funds should be directed to carbon-neutral technology and environmental projects.
I want planet Earth to be a beautiful, healthy living planet for future generations!
I want Australia to stop digging up coal and gas because they will make global heating worse than what it currently is – and it is bad enough already.
Please put an end to these climate wars and commit to a carbon neutral future, otherwise there will be no future for us, no more coal or gas

There is Zero benefit for Australia. Causing the destruction of our country and increased gas & electricity prices.
It only profits the foreign multinational corporations and our corrupt political parties.
Fracking does incredible irreversible damage to substrata, poisoning the aquifers and leaching to the freshwater on the surface.
The short term gain achieved is a terrible indictment of the dollar driven petrochemical industry and the politicians who by regulatory neglect permit this outrage.

Becos its the sane thing to do. Lets stop dragging our heels and save this planet. Ex miners can work in new industries in solar and associated support industries, we will not cut them adrift.
Subsidising coal and gas at the same time as seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is like putting one’s foot on the accelerator at the same time as applying the brakes. Nonsense behaviour.
