Talk of nuclear is a distraction from safe, clean, and much cheaper renewable energy.

Fairfax and Lyne Members of Parliament, Ted O’Brien and David Gillespie, have been promoting non-credible "next generation" nuclear technology in Australian parliament. In mid May, they will release a Senate Inquiry considering the removal of long-standing federal prohibitions on nuclear power, which could change Australia's relationship with the atom altogether. That's why the ACF Community in Fairfax and Lyne is gathering to learn what needs to be done to stop this distraction.

In the briefing you’ll:

  • Hear what elected representatives, Ted O’Brien and David Gillespie, have been saying and doing to promote “next generation” nuclear technology  and why its dangerous.
  • Hear why existing renewable energy is our best energy solution for solving the climate crisis.
  • Learn what you can do to make a difference in promoting safe and sustainable energy solutions.

The briefing will be hosted by Dave Sweeney, ACF’s Nuclear Free Campaigner and cofounder of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.

Professor Ian Lowe AO will join as our special guest. He is a leading thinker and commentator on energy, sustainability and nuclear issues. Ian’s most recent book Long Half-life (2021) explores Australia’s nuclear experience, from the discovery of radioactive ores in 1906 to the current contentious questions around civilian and military nuclear options.

You couldn't be in better hands for this important discussion. See you there!
