Safe, healthy communities depend on a healthy planet and climate solutions are here, now, and ready to scale in Australia.

To make it happen, your federal Member of Parliament (MP) needs to know the urgent demand for climate solutions from their constituents – including you.

After all, your MP elected to represent you and listen to and address community concerns. Every email MPs get from a constituent (a person who lives in their electorate) is treated as representative of 1 in every 10 constituents, so emailing your MP is a powerful way to flex your democracy muscles and call for climate action, now!

Email your local MP now and ask them to help renew Australia, and your local community, with climate solutions, like clean energy for our schools, and restoring our forests, wetlands and mangroves.

Tips for your email

  1. Introduce who you are, and how you connect to the local community. Examples: "I shop/work locally", "I am a member of a local sport club", "I walk at local parks".
  2. Explain your personal reasons for why we need climate action from the federal government, now. Example: "I'm a grandparent concerned how worsening climate impacts like more severe bushfires will affect my grandchildren's safety and health in the years to come."
  3. Offer your MP some climate solutions that they can endorse in Parliament and the party room. See below for a list of exciting climate solutions we have available to us right now! Extra tip: Make suggestions for how the climate solutions could benefit your local community, like powering your library with clean energy.
  4. Be polite and respectful.

Climate solutions

  1. Send our sunshine around the world. We can make Australia a global clean energy superpower in the next decade by replacing coal and gas with renewable energy. We can make a valuable export industry that secures and creates great jobs through manufactured products like green hydrogen, steel and aluminium.
  2. Create energy independent communities. Let's power all public buildings, such as schools, government offices, sporting clubs, halls and libraries – with affordable, clean energy by 2025.
  3. Drive clean. Let's take pollution out of transport, and save our health and climate. We can run our buses and trains on clean energy, make electric vehicles cheaper, and install electric vehicle charging stations across the country.
  4. Move the money. We can strengthen our democracy by getting coal and gas money out of politics and putting people back in.
  5. Save our backyard. Our lives and livelihoods depend on thriving nature. We need strong national nature protection laws to stop Australia’s worsening extinction crisis, and support nature as a climate solution. Our wetlands, bushlands, and forests are natural carbon storage powerhouses.

Our elected representatives must act now to secure and create climate-positive jobs and do our part to cut pollution this decade — to keep people and wildlife safe from dangerous, climate-fuelled bushfires, droughts and storms.

Australia has the abundant clean energy, the tools and the talent to do the job. Let’s get on with it. Use your power as a constituent, and email your local MP today.
