Email your MP for strong new laws to protect platypus and wildlife everywhere
Thanks for looking for a platypus as part of the platy-project.
You and thousands of others have explored our waterways to protect this elusive icon. We need our elected representatives to step up to protect our wetlands, wildlife, forests and oceans too.
It’s a crucial time for nature protection in Australia. The Federal Government is drafting landmark new laws that will shape how nature is protected (or neglected) for decades to come.
Local stories resonate deeply with Members of Parliament (MPs) and can spur them into action.
Email your MP about your search for a platypus, and why you care about protecting Australia’s incredible nature and wildlife.
Urge them “to be a strong voice for nature in Parliament, and speak up for strong new nature laws and an independent regulator to enforce them.”
What to include in your email:
Briefly introduce yourself including your name and the suburb you live in. You might like to also briefly say a little about who you are e.g. a young person, a person of faith, a member of a local community group or sporting club, a teacher, a parent, a bushwalker.
Explain why you took part in the platy-project. This can include details about where you looked, if you took part with others (such as family members or as part of a local group) and why you care about protecting nature.
Give your MP a clear ask: Urge them to “be a strong voice for nature in Parliament, by speaking up for strong new nature laws and an independent regulator to enforce them”.
Be polite and thank your MP for reading your message.
