We are living in an emergency, but that’s not an excuse for our government to rush through important policy without proper consideration or consultation.

Right now new legislation is before the Senate. If it passes it will pave the way for radioactive waste to be hauled out of secure storage at Lucas Heights nuclear facility, trucked through communities and dumped in Kimba on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

Radioactive waste lasts thousands of years. It pollutes our air, soil and water. It damages the genetic and reproductive systems of people, plants and animals. We need to get the management of this material right.

The last thing our regional communities need right now is increased radioactive risk.

The Senate has commissioned a committee to review this legislation, and they’re asking for community submissions. The deadline is this Thursday – this is our chance to speak up

Will you join me and use the green form on this page to email the pre-filled submission to the Senate Committee, asking that they reject this bill and help protect communities from radioactive risk?

Last year, more than 5,000 people in the ACF Community signed an open letter to keep radioactive waste out of the Flinders Ranges. A few weeks later our government announced the Flinders Ranges would stay waste-free.

Now we need to speak out for the people of Kimba and the wider Eyre Peninsula – and for the hundreds of thousands of people living on the proposed transport routes. If thousands of us take action once again, we can help get another big win!
